Gran Turismo 3 Euro date confirmed
It’s time to strip naked and skip through the streets with joyous abandon: in precisely 23 days, gamers across Europe will finally be able to get their mitts on a copy of the monumental GT3
July 20, 2001. This is the day the first true triple-A PS2 title hits stores Europe-wide and hospitals report a dramatic increase in cases of hysteria as salivating gamers, possessed by a virtual blood-lust, rampage through the streets like that bit with the wilder beasts in the Lion King. Yes, Gran Turismo 3 is the game every self-respecting PS2 owner should want to own. Expect a fair amount of people to go as far as buying a console just to experience Kazanori Yamauchi’s gaming chef d’oeuvre.
As ever, the Japanese (and import owners) have been able to experience the myriad delights of this mighty driving sim since late April, but good, old-fashioned gamers holding on for the English version have had a depressing wait. US gamers discovered recently that GT-Day would fall on July 10, but until now European gamers have been placed in a state of perpetual anticipation as they await an official announcement.
Despair no longer, kids, as CVG can exclusively reveal July 20 to be the official European release date. That’s only 23 days away. Or about 552 hours, depending on how you look at it. Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec picks up where the PSone versions left off, offering an unrivalled driving experience for hardcore gamers. With over 150 unique cars, beautifully recreated from their real-life counterparts, available for high-speed mularkey across a range of luscious courses, GT3 has more depth than a bottomless pit and more hidden surprises than a minefield.
If you’re even remotely interested in driving games and own a PS2, you should do whatever it takes to get your hands on this beauty. Finally, the PS2 is slowly beginning to get the games it deserves, and with GT3 we’re really seeing what the hardware is capable of. The only question that remains is what on earth are you gonna do to fill the pre-GT3 void in the next 23 days?
