I agree, but I think Kobe\'s the only one that made an impact quickly - TMac was here in Toronto for years before he even started to get good - his first couple of years in the league were spent practicing, playing videogames and sleeping in his hotel room. On the other hand we (the Raptors) drafted Morris Peterson last year and he stepped right into the starting line-up and did well on several occasions during the regular season and the playoffs. I\'m not saying that Mo Pete is better than TMac, but it took McGrady 3-4 years to get to where he is now - but even then TMac never acted like a pro, while the majority of guys drafted from college are much more mature.

I\'m by no means a basketball expert, but why is it that teams insist on drafting so many highschool players?

Yeah the high school topic is very interesting, i watched soemthing on tv about it.

I think they should have an age limit, they were trying to enforce the age of 22 but it never worked out.

I think Battier\'s experience will help him be a better NBA player and deserved to be no. 1 pick. Look at the high school players that were picked in the last few drafts. Sure, Kobe, T-Mac, and Garnett are doing great, but what about the other 90%. I\'m very against high schooler\'s jumping to the NBA.
I bet when the neanderthal kids would make a snowman, someone would always end up saying, \"Don\'t forget the thick, heavy brows.\" Then they would all get embarrassed because they remembered they had the big hunky brows too, and they\'d get mad and eat the snowman.

well with Kobe and Kevin Garnett looking good as pros these days who would chance passing up on these ammoth HS players who are still growing 6\'11" and 7\'1" is already huge.

How about the Bulls who have 2 HS\'s who were drafted in the 1st 4 rounds on there squad.

But at the same time for every Kobe and KG you get 10 crap players, not to mention a lot of these highschool ballers are too immature to play professional sports - case in point Tracy McGrady who d!cked around Toronto and Chicago before finally going to the Magic (who were the only team he wanted to go to, but wouldn\'t say it until months later).

Not to mention I don\'t know how reliable the scouting can be on highschool players - sure they can beat up on 16-17 year olds, but can they do it on Mutombo and Shaq?

I don\'t blame the players - even if they don\'t make it big, if they use the cash wisely they can still live off their rookie contracts for the rest of their lives. I can blame the teams.

[Now watch all the highschooler\'s drafted this year play amazing in the NBA..... ;) ]

The Draft is when all the college players, high school players, and foreign players that wanted to be in the nba are picked by the teams one by one. The worst teams get the higher picks, which usually gets them the best players available. The better teams get the later picks. There are 2 rounds like this. Pau Gasol was third player picked ou of all people
