Tekken vs. Virtura Figther
« on: June 28, 2001, 05:54:19 AM »
This is from coremaginizeOnce staunch rivals, AM2 director Yu Suzuki and Namco producer Hajime Nakatani shook hands last night at the PlayStation 2 party in Shibuya. Both acclaimed for their arcade fighting series, Virtua Fighter and Tekken respectively, spoke glowingly regarding their upcoming projects. Their meeting was preceded by the now infamous newspaper advertisement showcasing characters from both series squaring off for battle. The latest installments in both series, Virtua Fighter 4 and Tekken 4 are expected to go head to head next month in Japan.

The real battle however, is expected to begin this winter. As revealed by Nakatani-san at the event, a PlayStation 2 version of Tekken 4 is already in development. Similarly, Virtua Fighter 4 is slated to hit the PlayStation2 early next year in Japan. Brief clips of both games were shown before the assembled crowd, meanwhile Sony unveiled t-shirts with both the Virtua Fighter 4 and Tekken 4 logos.

Could this be true?

I think they\'re talking about competition in sales, not like Capcom\'s Vs series.
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

Too bad Suzuki said at the spring 2001 TGS that he has no intention nor will to bring two so different series together (VF & Tekken). So I think Ashford is right here; it\'s about the battle for popularity and sales and whatever.

Hehe, the mistyped "virtua" on the thread title looks like a finnish swear word :p

Yeah, it\'s probally about sales and popularity. But if it\'s a game, it will be awsome.

Sega and Namco/Sony want money, so I think there will be no Tekken4 vs. VF4. But in Japan there was advertising in some magazines with this picture. I think it\'s just a collaboration to make hype.

That game would be sweet, but it is for sure about sales,i mean the title wouldnt have tekken 4 vs virtual fighter 4,it wouldnt have the  4\'s in the title.
On the 15 of March 2002, i was going to leave these forums for good.

I am betting that in Japan, VF4 will win the sales race without trying. Example - VF3 was released in 1996 and remained the top arcade game nearly every week until late in 1999. The VF4 machines are one TRIAL right now, incomplete and still some problems, it is the number one arcade game in Japan. Yes, a TRIAL game.

Of course in America, citizens cannot deal with the complexity of Virtua Fighter\'s battle system, Tekken 4 IMO, will sell 3 times as many copies.

Agree\'d totally. Personally, if I had to pick one up and just one alone, I\'d get VF4... But, I think most in America will end up gettin\' T4, and the Japanese gettin\' VF4.

By the way-- a VF vs Tekken game would suck. The play mechanics are totally different.

yup. Tekken uses limb based fighting and VF uses attack area based fighting. Of course Virtua Fighter has over 4000 combos and moves and anyone with advanced knowledge overtime would be able to get out of any button masher from either side, but I just don\'t think a game like that would work.

I am just happy with the way SNK vs. Capcom turned out, it could\'ve been much worse, but was surprisingly fun to play.

I can\'t wait for both games (although i prefer the Virtua Fighter-series a little bit). Ok, a VF vs. T-game is very unlikely, but maybe we will see some Tekken-characters in VF 4 (for example Jin) and/or VF-characters appearing in Tekken 4 (maybe Akira or Jeffrey)?! Would be great!
