http://arstechnica.com/reviews/1q00/playstation2/ee-1.html

(If you read this before excuse me then) I just thought this article gives more detail on how sony changed the design of ps2. And that is beast in terms of power, but developers have to learn how to unlocke the power(which is explained in this article) The ps2 has a lot of power that has yet to be taped. A lot of ppl have taken shots at sony. Saying the ps2 has no power and it can\'t compete in graphics. Well they are wrong the ps2 has lots of power that has yet to be seen. Although I feel xbox is the strongest in terms of raw power. The ps2 is no slouch and the E.E true power has yet to be seen.

Unfortunately, this alleged untapped power may never be tapped.

WRONG  :)
He has the power of both worlds
Girl: What power… beyond my expectations?
AND IT\'S PERSONAL
Demon: No… the legendary Sparda!?
Dante: You\'re right, but I\'m his son Dante!

If you were familiar with the PS2\'s architecture like you were with the Xbox\'s, you would realize that that 4MB of VRAM is not a bottleneck. This is like the second or third time I\'ve heard you say this. Hasn\'t anybody here enlightened you on the subject yet?

The Saturn also had a lot of "untapped" power.  The problem was that no one wanted to waste time and money to tap that "untapped" power.  PS2 developers will keep tapping away at the Emotion Engine; however, if Xbox and GCN happen to eclipse the PS2 userbase (a very real possibility), the tappers will quit tappin and PS2 support will go kaput.
When all is said and done...the PS2 will be remembered as the console with the best games in Fall 2001.

Sigh... not this again, dude I have known about this for a long time, if you knew anything, and what developers have said about it, then you would understand where I am comming from.

This agrument about the Internal 4mb has always had two sides to it. Though so far I haven\'t seen them do any amazing things with it.

What exactly have developers said about it, Ogodly?

And that screenshot that CygnusXI just posted is like a big fat BOOYAH!... Very pretty.

LMAO, thanks, I needed something to cheer me up after all this fighting.

I agree that it\'s unfortunate the "power of the PS2" may never be unlocked, but I think that eventually programming packages will emerge to give developers a chance, whether or not they take it is their decision.  PS2 programming require prudence, something the world has lost in it\'s fast-paced BB atmosphere.  Ah, well. . . to dream.

Thanks:)

I\'m not being a smart a$$, I just know that WRC 2001 uses the Mythical texture streaming that supposedly overcomes the 4MB issue.

All the scenery is calculated randomly, on the fly, and the texturing(and possibly the polygonal maps) are in a constant state of being dumped into and out of memory.

If more games actually pick up this technique games like MGS2 and DMC may seem crappy by next gen PS2 games. **Crosses Fingers**:)

tapping PS2\'s full power means working with the "Metal", time-consuming, expensive, pain in the a$$. How many Developers are gonna spend 8M to create a great looking game? :D They won\'t,
they will play with their CodeWarrior 2.5 IDE and tap the main CPU, while the vector units sit on their asses,...

IMO I think SONY will release a library that will tap the PS2 power more easily, although it too won\'t tap 100% of the PS2\'s power, it should ease development for some developers. :D
