mclarenmans Lemans 24 hours review
« on: July 04, 2001, 10:01:18 PM »
I picked up the pal version of Lemans 24 hours a week ago and since i have has some decent playing time on it i decided to do a review.

Graphics.
The graphics on this game are quite stunning. While obviously not up to GT3 standard the game would have to be the best looking racer on the ps2. The models are very accurate compared to their real life conterparts(i know because i have many videos and models of lemans cars) and the reflection effects look realistic. The tracks are the best part of the game with very realistic layouts, superb lighting and weather effects, and alot of little details. Even the 13km lemans track looks beautiful.
Lemans also comes with a 50/60hz option. My only gripes with the game are the somewhat bland textures on the cars and only the players car has reflection mapping.

Gameplay.
The handling of the game is very nice with a good weighty feel. The cars spin out when to much power is put to the floor and they braking feels very good.
The AI is way too easy on the intermediate and easy levels but once put up to the expert level the cars are alot harder to race against. The make passing moves and mistakes. The longieviety of the game is one of its strongest points. With 70 cars on offer and only about 10 to start off with. There are 7 full tracks on offer with and extra 5 variations avaliable. The 7 full tracks on offer are Lemans, Bugatti(located inside Lemans), Brno, Road Atlanta, Suzuka, Donnington, and Catalunya.

Sound.
The sound is very inconsistent in the game. Some of the cars mainly the GT cars sound paticulary weak while the majority of the prototypes sound very nice especially the V8 Panoz. One problem with the engine noises are the are too quite compared to the surronding sounds from the track.

Overall i think this is the best PS2 racing game out yet and personally my favourite by far.

Cool!! I\'m get this as soon it come to USA!!   Oh here\'s to your signature: :D

Porsche has built the most devastating GT1 of all, the 3rd gereration 911 GT1, the GT1-98. It is the wildest thing to come along since the Moby D1ck 935 in 1978. The fiercest racecar on the track. The GT1-98 came in and took LeMans by STORM this year, winning the race. A GT1 took first AND second place that 1998 year, running a pretty much flawless race. The two GT1s sailed across the finish line side by side winning 1-2, a great triumph for Porsche in their 50th anniversary year!j

I have played Moto GP and personally i prefer Lemans graphics, i just dont like the way the bikes look or move, but i havent played TXR:X. This is oboviusly only my opinion anyway and other are intitled to theres.

pstwo: They didnt enter because they knew they couldnt win. There are some Porsches i like though, the 917 and the TWR WSC95.

I just recently got Tokyo Xtreme Racer. The graphics are pretty decent like and it all runs along at a decent framerate.

Does Lemans have screen centering options if so add it to the PAL features list.

Check my review out of Tokyo Xtreme Racer for more info. :)
