I picked up the pal version of Lemans 24 hours a week ago and since i have has some decent playing time on it i decided to do a review.
Graphics.
The graphics on this game are quite stunning. While obviously not up to GT3 standard the game would have to be the best looking racer on the ps2. The models are very accurate compared to their real life conterparts(i know because i have many videos and models of lemans cars) and the reflection effects look realistic. The tracks are the best part of the game with very realistic layouts, superb lighting and weather effects, and alot of little details. Even the 13km lemans track looks beautiful.
Lemans also comes with a 50/60hz option. My only gripes with the game are the somewhat bland textures on the cars and only the players car has reflection mapping.
Gameplay.
The handling of the game is very nice with a good weighty feel. The cars spin out when to much power is put to the floor and they braking feels very good.
The AI is way too easy on the intermediate and easy levels but once put up to the expert level the cars are alot harder to race against. The make passing moves and mistakes. The longieviety of the game is one of its strongest points. With 70 cars on offer and only about 10 to start off with. There are 7 full tracks on offer with and extra 5 variations avaliable. The 7 full tracks on offer are Lemans, Bugatti(located inside Lemans), Brno, Road Atlanta, Suzuka, Donnington, and Catalunya.
Sound.
The sound is very inconsistent in the game. Some of the cars mainly the GT cars sound paticulary weak while the majority of the prototypes sound very nice especially the V8 Panoz. One problem with the engine noises are the are too quite compared to the surronding sounds from the track.
Overall i think this is the best PS2 racing game out yet and personally my favourite by far.
