Don\'t think so.  Once other games hop on the HDD bandwagon it shouldn\'t have a problem.  Um, memory cards a priced by the PC memory market, why not HDD?  Plus, it is a lot cheaper already, hardley any profit.

But I\'m sure before more games come out with an HDD requirement, they will want more homes to have the HDD to buy the game so a price cut is inevitable.

I\'ll buy the HDD, even if it\'s just for FFX and beatmania, because i dont\' care what anyone else thinks, as long as it makes the games better, plus, the HDD will be useful for saving games on. <-------(run-on sentence)

Sometimes run-on sentences add a certain "flavor" to one\'s writing style.

And good for you!  Follow your own convictions (though I\'d prefer to be prudent).

it is very hard to sell an addon that is 100 bucks or more. unless there is a hugely great online multiplayer game that everyone gets, the casual gamer probably wont want to save up 150$ for internet access and a HDD.

sure its competively priced, but you could buy 3 other games for that amount.. sony has to take losses on this product, otherwise it wont get a big userbase.

I talked to my father and he though 150USD was pretty cheap when you think what you get for it.. :)

And belive me.. He doesnt know anything about games..

(He might even pay 50% of the price.. Sweet!)

Will people stop with that crap about you can buy three games for that, you can buy a sony memory card which is  what $35 dollars, that more then half for a game, but it is what people want,if they dont want a memory card then they wont buy one,if someone doesnt want the HDD drive then they wont buy it,not everyone will sit there and think,i could buy three games for that price,if they want it they will simply get it!

The main point is not the hdd itself. Up to
today in many places except USA the PS2
unit itself is priced high. A big bit to high.
It also has to do with marketing timing : 1. xbox
and NGC stated their prices which are quite
low.
2. PS2 is still waiting for those killer apps. ( with gt3
just around the corner though )

So it\'s more about how the gaming community perceives
the PS2 image. It\'s not good timing imo to introduce an
expensive add on right now. If I were Sony I\'d wait how
XBOX gamers respond to games that use the inbuilt Hdd and online system and then do something. Maybe  make it 20 Gig instead of 40.
Whadda you all say about a 20 Gig hdd/bb modem at 50 Dollar?

i would say if they made a package of what you said a 20 gig harddrive, and a eithernet card, make it 99.99$ it may do  quite well. i like the news that fastson has about his dad, but he knows something about computers, while casual gamers probably will not.
it may do well, but only if there is a great game supporting it.
