TekkenZaibatsu has been talking to some people who have played Tekken 4 in Europe today.  They have posted the logs on their site, and say they will post even more today and tomorrow.  There is a lot of new news about it, so go read it.

I rarely go there, but my nick is the same as my new game, Sumasshu.  What is your nick?

About the logs:
First of all, my predictions were right about Steve.  He is cheap.  He is too fast, too powerful, and too easy to use.  Now that the new Capoeira girl takes skill to use (according to the recent interview with Namco), I guess they needed someone to fill Eddy\'s shoes.

It sounds like Yoshi and King, two of my favorite three characters, are going to rock. :)  Heihachi is my other favorite.

Yoshi\'s "move steal" move is not as great as I was hoping for, but it will still be a very fun move to play around with.  When you do the Yoshi Flash, it steals their move.  Then when you do the Yoshi Flash again, it does the move.  So you can only use each stolen move once before you have to learn another one.  I still think this is going to make Yoshi a limitless character.  It will give the players who know how to use everyone, and know how to do are juggles, a chance to show off their skills.

Like in Tekken 3, Yoshi can gain back all of his life doing the meditation thing.  Not only that, but he can do a forward dive while he is sitting!

While he is in his pogo stick stance, he can temporaraly(sp?) duck.  The sword goes into the ground, which makes him go lower for a little bit, then it comes back out.  Very cool! :)

King getting most of Armor Kings moves made him even more of a powerhouse.  He still doesn\'t have any juggle starters except for the hop kick though.  It would have been nice if he got AKing\'s WGF.

Now for more general things.  The low parry, f/d, is still in.  This made Tragic very upset. :)  Also, they don\'t think there is a way to break out of the place change throws.  This made Tragic even more upset. :D  I never thought a person that is supposedly one of the best in America (I\'ve never actually seen him play, so I couldn\'t compare him to myself ;)), would get so mad over the stupidest things.  By the end, he was saying how he hated Tekken 4 and would have been better of just staying with Tekken 3. :)  LOL.  I thought it was pretty funny.  He was also saying how Steve was not top tier, even though people who actually played it said there was no way he wasn\'t.  :)  I\'m sure he\'ll get used to the new Tekken.

There was also info on Kazuya, Hwoarang, Steve, Law(even though Law isn\'t that much different from TTT :(), Paul, and Xiaoyu.  It takes a little while to read, but if you have the time, you should definately do it.

Grayfox from TekkenZaibatsu gave a great review of what he played today.  And there will definately be new movies of T4 tomorrow, because I\'ve already heard from a few different people saying they will upload movies they made tomorrow.

Here is what Grayfox said:
http://63.92.61.205/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13542
Quote
Today I went down to playtest the test version of Tekken 4, in London, here\'s what I found.

I copied from the cabinet the new characters moves

V\\British Edge Combo: LP (Left Punch), RP (Right Punch), LP, RP
British Edge Combo 2: LP, RP, LP, down, RP
Sonic Fang: down/towards, RP
Waving Left: LK (Left Kick)
Waving Right: RK (Right Kick)

Craig Marduk
Alligator: down, RP, LK
Tornado Chop: (while rising) RP
Elbow Sting: forward, hold forward, RP
Back Breaker: quarter circle back, LP + RP
Crouching Style: LK + RK

Christie Monteiro
Combo Silar: LP, RP, RK
Back Handspring: LK + RK
Mirage: down/forwards, LK + RK
Satellite Moon: RK, LK
Fruit Picker: down/back, LK + RK

I tried to get a full moves list from Namco but they said they did not have any. Maybe they will get some later in the week.

On to the game itself,

Firstly the bad news is that the universal down parry has been left in the game and in fact it is no longer possilbe to use a command to do it!!!!!!!! you have to tap D/F.

Also the commands are alot different to the prevoius tekken games now tapping up will make u shift into the screen and down out of it, (there is no need for the stick to return to neutral) the radius of this shift was actully smaller than T3 and I was being hit alot during this. Holding up or down will make u walk into and out of the screen. This looks slow when seeing but when I mixed it with the shift I was drifting in and out of enemies with great ease. I seems in T4 movement will be a big part of the game!

To Jump now u have to hold U/F and to duck you hold D/B (this was really confusing to me at first but is very instintive)

pressing LP+LK will do the position swich which can be controlled as to where u place your opponent. (very important) left and right throws are now done by using commands and RP+RK instead.

On to the characters

Hwaorang

he seems really tough now he has a new launcher in righty stance B+4 which is a little slow but really good from mid range. He can swicth flemenco stances now by pressing 3+4 while in a flemenco, this also causes him to side step a little. I was using this to get into peoples backs in one smooth motion by doing shift down -- walk down -- left flemenco -- change flemenco 4, 4. He also has a move added after his crippler D/B+4, 4 he hits low the swings back and hits high which is unescapeable on counter hit. It sets up many things because of the way you opponent falls and any hit will make them face their back to u when they get up setting up more combos. He also has a U/B + 4 move where he hops back and throws out a mid kick, and also after 1, 2 now he can either go into right or left flemenco by delaying a bit and hitting either 3 or 4.

Steve

I had to fight a lot of steve today, and found out alot about him he has a punch combo that is REALLY fast and that hits HMM or HML and both can juggle you!!!!! I think he is a rush down character more than the others, because if I waited at close range he would rip me apart. I wouldn\'t go as far as to say he is unbalanced though, beacuse at mid to long range I think he ie really weak. Claka drove me mad with his sways! I think a good steve player will be unhitable! but like I said I think rumours of him being over powered are a bit much, but hey I only been playing a day.

Ling

I think of everyone in the game ling seems to be the character I would say is the best on first sight. Namco seems to have given her more range now, and have made her able to fight from almost anywhere. I think as well that she the most new combo\'s and REALLY can kill against the wall, I saw her combo against the wall then move around and go out again!!!!!!!! it\'s almost as if she breaks the juggle convensions in the game. My fav of the day for sure.

Paul

The sweep elbow is back baby albeit with a little less range off the sweep. Paul has a new shoulder attack that can **** ur bar near the wall. the deathfish is same as ever( wacth those counter hits ) and u can get 2 off the wall. Paul also seems to move MUCH MUCH better and by use of his sway, CD, shift, walk, and position change will be really hard to track.
Smashmouth tekken is back.

Yoshi

yeah a really good char, he CAN learn moves but with some conditions, if u do the flash and someone does a move u both stun back for a second after that if u do the flash again yoshi will then do the move that was done on him! with paul I learned a deathfist then did D/F +2
B +1, 1 deathfist hehe. Infact even if the move hits u still learn the move!. But you have to use it with care beacuse there is a nasty recovery and the timing is small.(it also carries on into the next round). U/F + 3 is also a new launcher like a knee which is really good.

King

Did not use him at all seems to have alot of armour kings moves from tag I\'ll test him more tomorrow

Kazuya

Yep the ***** is back while standing 2 is now to my best knowledge an unescapeable stun! but get this on a counter hit I think it is not hit based but TIME BASED!!!!!!!!! as in that u are stunned for a certain amount of time and not just the first hit or combo. He also has a a new punch kick combo and about 3 new stuns Kaz is really a nasty character now Oh and he can wave dash, add that to the WS +2 and well u get the picture

Law

another character I did not do too much with, he seems simular to T3 law though more on him tomorrow

OK and onto the real deal combos! well the wall works like this when u hit the wall u start off a timer that is always the same, and ends when ur opponent hits the floor after which u can\'t hit them. But between that time u can hit the opponent, for example with hwaorang I did CD + 4 -- 3+4 --3~4 hit wall -- 3, 3, 4, 1, etc and that really took almost 70 % damage. With yoshi Dec got D/F + 2 -- B +1, 1 --paul learned shoulder barge -- off wall -- pogo hop (3 hits on floor) and this took 75%. Being trapped in the wall is really not where u want to be in T4. Even being pushed into a wall by a position change will cause a hit and thus a wall juggle.

T4 seems to me to be about movement and real tactics. It seems that u can almost put your character where u want them to be and that is a really good feeling and with the different backgrounds and terrain (u will not belive the car park I mean really!!!!!!!!!!!!). I played for oneday and I\'m loving it!

grayfox

I\'m going to bed now but in the morning I\'ll check this post agian so if u have any requests for things u want me to test just post them and I check it in the morning and see what I can do. ther are also movies as well which I post up for u later.

see u in the arcade

GF.

It sounds very cool.  The anticipation for this game in the arcades is overpowering the anticipation I have for GT3 tomorrow. :)  I really just can\'t wait.

Haven\'t you been keeping up?  Eddy is probably not in this one.  He was replace by a girl Capoeira user.

Day 2
« Reply #7 on: July 11, 2001, 08:30:43 PM »
Here are some impressions of day two.  It sounds like there are a lot of things that still need to be fixed, but it is sounding cooler every day.  Steve doesn\'t sound like he is very cheap anymore, and Law has a lot more moves than previously thought.

This is from Grayfox:
Quote
Just some random ramblings from the T4 playtest day 2

firstly the game in it\'s current state can NOT be realesed there is just plain and simple far too much skullduggery in there. Today 80~100% combos were found with almost ALL the characters, and I\'m even sure that on the car park stage at the bottom of the slope ling maybe able to do an infinate (sometimes it would repeat and sometimes not)

The backgrounds are as follows

The Jungle

Like fighting in a pit where one side is encapulated by a large tree and the others by green leafy walls. There are random objects scattered around it and trees can be used as walls also. There is also a slope which can increase juggles by comboing your opponent down it.

The Lab

A VERY small rectangular room which is sloped at either side, The room is so small that it can be juggled across, there are no objects on this stage.

Airport

AGHHHH! I kept picking this stange by accident, it\'s odd because there is wall to the right but the other side is infinate but there are pillers to duck hide and combo around.

Building

Scene of some of the nasty 100% combos 2 of which were with hwoarang, it is split into 2 levels. A flat one and a sloped one there are statues and objects all over the place and this leads to some of the really heavy combos.

Car park

The only Bg with a roof and any really high hitting attack would knock u against it, I think that the physics of this are still very bad and u almost get a sticking effect when u hit ur opponent against the roof. There is also a really ! long slope that leads down to a garage door and will seriously increase juggling, the arena also has cars which act as walls.

Today it was also found that not only were there wall combos but corner ones as well and they were much longer and more damaging than the normal agaist the wall combos. I think that this will be addressed in the final version.

As a revision from yesterday the old left throw 1+3 is now 2+4 and the right is F, F 2+4. I think the escapes are the same though, and also back throws are now escapeable by pressing 2.
Posistion switching is also escapeable as well although the window is very small.

On to characters

Ling

while her back is turned 4 is the ttt version and spins the opponent around rather than launches now and her WS~2 will only juggle on counter hit. She has many new mix ups now (too many to list) and can do 1, D+2, 1+2 which make her do a storming flower after the 1, D+2. Ling can not walk with her back turned as well.

Law

He can now do a bruce lee taunt and then go into all kinds of new moves, he can even do the last 2 hits of his junk yard combo alone B+2, 3, 4, he also has a new flying kick move which is garenteed ater his punch parry!!!!! martin was nailing me with it today (and I think Shinjin found more stuff that could be landed after it). Law seemed REALLY fast now and moves very well his D+2, 4 is still a combo on countr hit

King

His gaint swing can put u into a wall now and if it does it takes 70% damage (as u can\'t tech roll after u hit the wall) His 2~1 sting has ALOT less range now and has lost a lot IMO. Shinjin told me that even his figure 4 leg lock is REALLY easy to counter now because the window is so big. I wouldn\'t say king is a bad character but on what I saw there HAS to be more to him.

other random rants

I just don\'t get kaz stuns. I do WS~2 then 1 and they are still stunned !!!!!!!!!! ready to be hit again, maybe it just not finished, Kaz also has a really mad looking flying kick move the can be landed after EWGF. and of course here is the madest news I think "think" that kaz EWGF only juggles on Counter hit!!!!!!!
and on a normal hit, hits like the WGF that jin had on T3 when he did it against the big characters (jack, Kuma).

pauls D+1+2 is really strong and has auto sidestep in it, and steve is not all powerful.

Oh and one last thing at the start of fights the placing of ur chars is random so sometimes u are close up and others u are far apart. You can also move around before u fight like in the capcom Vs games but you can\'t do any moves though.

Ok that\'s all I can think of if I get anymore in my head I\'ll post it up soon as I can, I\'m felling Ill now cause I haven\'t eaten for a couple of days (damn T4) and I\'m not sure if I\'ll go tomorrow but I raise hell to try to get there as it\'s not far at all from where I live. If I don\'t go Shinjin, Martin, or Ezi can post on day 3 goings on.

Oh and one fianl thing I think that christina and craig are in the test version as it has an internal clock running in the bottom right hand corner but as the machine goes off every night it restarts. If when u get ur version u can stop this from resetting I think u could get one of the 2.

Claka:
Quote
If you have seen the logs of the conversation i had(more like interigation) most of the stuff is already there, but i\'ll just correct and add a few things...

In the logs i told tragic that you could not escape the position change, i was wrong, but the window is very small to escape,

on the brigther side the normal throw escape window is now alot larger, you can escape throw even when to are noticably into the throw anim.

also, backthrows can be escaped, but judging by the beta version they had not worked out an anim for a backthrow escape

Law..
he has a 2,2,1,2(or 1, i\'m looking thru the footage to find it)
string. i\'ll capture it when i find it.

i said on irc that he only has 1 move from his new(d+1+2) stance
but he can do the above string from the stance, also he can do his lunge kick(3 while in the stance, ff+3 normal)
the ss punch string like in tag is still there and if the first hit hits on ch then the rest will all hit.

his d+3,3,3 kicks string is now gone.
thats about all for Law.

Bob, found nothing new with bob except he has a 100% combo if you hit cd+4 close to a wall.

posistion change.....
f1+2 pushes the op backwards
b1+2 changes posistion
u or d 1+2 move them 90 degrees but leaves them backturned
if you do his close to a wall if becomes a combo starter( and you can do some evil stuff )

yoshi, i will leave yoshi to decschief....
but he does have some NICE ****(mishima beware!!!!)

steve fox, well i actually met the woman who changed his name from Dean earwicker, but i spent the first almost 100% on steve and if you read the logs, i have most of his moves down so i will do a seperate post for him
