Best Movie Endings?
« on: July 26, 2001, 05:52:17 PM »
?

This post and replies will probably have some spoliers, so watch out!

Mine would have to be: (they don\'t have to be surprise endings, just good ones)

Shawshank Redemption - it about makes me cry, evry time I watch it in the last 5 seconds. The last 10 minutes are some of my favorites from ANY movie.

Citizen Kane - finding out what Rosebud meant, nuff said.

Unbreakable - Wow, finding out that Samuel L. Jackson ws the one that caused all the disasters! crazy!

Se7en - Man, the last 10 minutes are INTENSE of this movie! "John Doe has the upperhand"

12 Monkeys - great ending, ties up all loose ends and makes you go \'"huh?!" for the next hour.

O, Brother Where Art Thou? - hilarious movie, great acting by Clooney, even though I usually can\'t stand him!

Fargo - Another Coen Brothers film, dark whule funny, really shows human greed, last 10 minutes solves everything.

Rope - ever seen a Hitch**** ending? nuff said.

North by Northwest - ditto.

Fight Club - anyone who has seen this knows this is another one of those "huh?" movies!

Movies you never have seen, but probably should with great endings:

Hard 8 (P.T. Anderson early film)
Memento (find it, watch it, thank me)
Requiem for a Dream (ditto)
Tomb Raider (When those credits were rolling, I was so happy and relieved!)

I would say you can add "The 6th sense" to that list

I really enjoyed that one

Ok, Unbreakable = Retarded, period.  His weakness was water.  His body is composed of 80% of his weakness.  Jackson was a degenerated and reversed Professor X.  When he fell down the stairs I was praying "please don\'t put him a wheelchair, please don\'t put him a wheelchair, please don\'t put him a wheelchair" but they did.  I actually yealled out "WTF" in the theater, and I got a couple "yeah\'s" thrown back.  The movie was in no way original.  I predicted each and every scene to the smallest details before they even happened.  The movie was pure, 100%, crap on a stick.  I rarely hate movies, I am always somewhat-satisfyed when I leave a theater.  This was the one and only movie I absolutely hate.

Fight Club = worst. . . ending. . . ever.  They could have done so much more.  It wasn\'t a "huh" ending, it was a "wtf did they do that for?  That bites, ruined the entire movie."  I love Fight Club, but I absolutely hate the ending.

I\'m just so angry about Unbreakable, that I can\'t even think about "the best ending."  I\'ll get back to you on that.

UPDATE:  Because I\'m still having trouble thinking, I\'m going to say the ending to "GO."  It ended great, with the "So what are we doing for New Years," like the crap they went through is an everyday thing.  I guess I just relate to that movie.  And that\'s what makes a movie great, the personal connections you have towards the characters.

Welcome to the spoiler thread.

I liked the endings of (off the top of my head) The Usual Suspects, Fight Club and Primal Fear.

I forgot about "The Usual suspects."  That was so awesome!  I wasn\'t thinking much about the movie so when that ending came up it was such a surprise!

I guess I\'ll add "Run-Lola-Run" to my list, for the same reasons I listed for "Go."

Yeah, Usual Suspects was a GREAT ending!

and I feel the same way about Sixth Sense. I guessed that ending by watching the previews. I go, "come on!" but I loved Unbreakable because I didn\'t want to, nor try to figure out the endings, or get mad at obvious comparisons to Professor X, which is bad I guess, when you FIND OUT at the end that he is the bad guy.

I liked it, but I am a comic freak and I always think of myself in a supernatural form as in "what if I had super strength?"

BUT, I hated the kid in there, that kid is ugly and bugs me.

I didn\'t like Go because that is a horrible Hollywood rendition of what a Rave is. I liked the Double Dragon guy\'s story though, that was the only one I liked. The way they tied it up into all the stories was good, but the end was crappy, they ended it after they were done with the stories with Katie Holmes talking, IMO, and not way after that.

Sorry to linger on this "Unbreakable" thing, but it was ssssooooooo obvious that he was the bad guy about half-way through.  The hints were so obvious.  I must have been "accidentally" set in "super-human smart mode" or something \'cause I saw right through the movie.  No surprise ending, nothing.  Absolutely nothing.

Gawd, I hate it when I\'m stuck in "super-human smart mode."  Otherwise I might have enjoyed the movie.

Fight Club - The ending had its flaws but for the most part I liked it.

Se7en - A movie where no one wins, \'cept the bad guy really.

Snatch - Everything ties together so perfectly.

Lock,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - Another Guy Ritchie film (See: Snatch). Once again, everything ties together perfectly, \'cept at the end it has no real end. You are left wondering if the character answers his cell phone / drops the rare guns in the water . Or if he picks the guns up and drops the cell phone. I done a poor job of explainin\' this, so you should just go find this movie. Excellent film.

One Flew over the Cukcoo\'s nest. - I just cannot believe none of you mentioned this classic. It has maybe one of the most touching endings.

Shawshank Redemption - One word : Amazing

Primal Fear - Awesome surprise ending.

Taxi Driver - It doesn\'t surprise you. But at the same time, in a strange way you are happy for Robert Deniro\'s character, even though he just killed a couple of people.

Dancer in the Dark - Another one I can\'t believe no one mentioned. A musical starrin\' Bjork. The ending is sad, peaceful and all around touching and disturbing.

 @ Altered\'s Tomb Raider remark. I have to agree man..

I thought the Wild Things ending was pretty cool.. I like how it all got explained at the end... The things that they did behind everyone\'s back. That was sweet.

The WORST ending for me has to be Blair Witch 2... lmao... I\'m sitting there waiting for more, then all of a sudden the credits start to roll! LOL... It ends right outta nowhere... Oh well... :D

Hmm, from what I can remember, it was an OK movie. Kinda creepy.. My normal looking neighbor could be Saddam Hussein\'s spy in the U.S.

Best Ending:

Crying Freeman

Don\'t know why, but i like the ending.

also great Ending:

Die Hard

I like this song and the whole szene...

Worst Ending:

End of Evangelion

Too cruel and brutal. It also doesn\'t really fit to the series.
I\'m not your doll! - Rei Ayanami
