FFX release date (almost)!
« on: July 26, 2001, 09:07:34 PM »
Well, we knew 1st Quarter 2002 already, but here\'s some info you probably haven\'t heard yet.

From thegia:

[07.20.01] » Square begins planning for FFX\'s release in other territories.

With the successful Japanese launch of Final Fantasy X out of the way, Square has begun planning the European and North American versions of the game. The development team is currently on hiatus following the last minute scramble to get the game released in Japan, but work will begin on the localizations as soon as they return. Square president Hisashi Suzuki spoke to Mainichi Interactive about the company\'s plans.

The North American version will feature all the game\'s voice work re-dubbed in English. The company is aiming for a release late this year or very early next year, but Suzuki commented that sticking to this schedule may be difficult. The European version will be localized into five languages, most likely the ever popular combination of English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian. Due to the amount of speech in the game, however, the European release will probably reuse the English voice acting with localized subtitles. No date for the European version has been set.

As has been mentioned before, Square has high hopes for the worldwide sales of Final Fantasy X. The game has already shipped over two million copies in Japan and Square is aiming for at least four million in sales in its home territory. After the North American and European releases, the company hopes to bring that figure up to ten million, which would make FF X the best selling game in the series.

Come to me now!  (Hopefully this means more likely January than March!)

10 millions of FFX with less than 20 millions of consoles? mmm... it would be a record

I\'m still considering getting the import myself.
Like mech games?  From Armored Core to Frame Gride.  Gundam to Zero Divide.  Come to Mech Madness.

There are a couple translation guides on the net now.  An import shouldn\'t bee too bad.  Except on of the biggest changes is that you can hear it instead of read it.  And if you do the inport / online translation thing, you\'ll be reading again.  I\'m hopin\' it\'s worth the wait.

Thanks for the info Trog, does the entire game have speech, or is it like a 20/80 split between speech/text? :D

I can\'t wait for this game !!!  FF9 was good, but I’m done with it... :D

All main characters speak 100% of the time.  Those non-essential people, i.e. nameless villagers, do not speak.  So there is a tiny bit of "required reading."

In the US version the main characters will also speak? I hope this time they do so the waiting will worth something.

That\'s what I said.  Not even in the Japanese version does it have the characters actually talking to "no-name" villagers.

But there still should be in-fight talking, as in the Japanese version.

The US version is the same, just English dubbed.
