I don\'t even bother reading reviews anymore. What\'s the point if they don\'t even bother writing them anymore? I went out and rented this one for myself, and here\'s my early thoughts in a nutshell:
It\'s a decent game in the same vein as Resident Evil. It has way too many similarities for me to not make that association. It does make a few improvements. Some of the features I liked was the Battery Pack (you use it to operate the Save Points, open doors, work elevators, etc.), the weapons system (you have the same weapon through the game, but ou get upgrades for it), the weapon refill stations (self-explanatory), infections (you get bit enough, and you turn into a zombie too), and I thought the controls weren\'t too shabby either.
On the bad side, they\'ve added jumps. If you missed the jumps, you instantly die and have to start over at the last save point. This might work in Mario 64, but in a survival horror game, it\'s just unnessecarily frustrating. You can easily lose 15 minutes like that, just being a little careless. I also thought the little slug guys were just too damn annoying.
I haven\'t actually beaten the game yet, but so far I\'d say that this is a great rental game. Unless you really want to buy a new PS2 survival horror game right now, I\'d hold out for Silent Hill 2 or Resident Evil CV.
