Backlash? How bad will it be? (xbox)

Remember the PS2 launch?
What about the XBOX launch?
How many people will be disappointed in the console?
Will people be destroying them in the street?
Will it be all over the news?
Could the hype severally backfire?
People will see and hear about the PS2 games that look better and play better then XBOX games. People will see and hear about the NGC games that look better and play better then XBOX games.

MS has touted a system 3 times more powerful.
Yet, the ps2 has many games, which look better then any game on the system,
The ps2 was in a similar situation during its launch, but was not hit as hard, because the only competition was DC.
TTT, SSX looked better then most stuff, if not all stuff on the DC.
The ps2 had the hype to get the system out there, and the PSX behind it.
However, unlike the ps2, the XBOX has no system before it, also the NGC and PS2 against it. The XBOX does not have a game to show that’s better then any ps2 game or NGC Game. Compared to the few million DC the PS2 was up against, XBOX is up against 20 million consoles. Making the DC total look like Childs play.

Meaning, if they hype backfires.. MS does not have the cushion that Sony had.

On TOP of all of that, one of the consoles is 100 dollars cheaper, the other likely 50 cheaper.
How much will the backlash be?
The public is expecting the next coming of god they will get a system that has the worst looking games

The X-Box launch will be fantasmagoric IMO. THey don\'t have a Japanese launch before it to steal all the consoles and meory cards away from us. And I believe, like Sega, MS will be on top of proper distribution. I worked in a game store during the PS2 launch, and let me say that Sony did worse than I imagine anyone will ever do before. You can\'t deliver that kind of hype that not deliver, tangible or otherwise.

I have not seen a racing game on PS2 that looks better than Project Gotham. Or a (gulp) 3D fighter that looks better than DOA3. There are other examples. Plus, X-Box will hopefully convine many PC users to buy one and will have that behind them.

BTW, you don\'t know how ANY of the games will play, so we gotta reserve judgment til the console comes out and is in my hands.

X-Box will sell extremely well on launch, not as much of a frenzie as PS2, but will still sell enough to make any new guy in the industry proud.

I already prefer X-Box to the other 2 already, just because they are doing a well-thought out online plan and they have many legacy Sega titles on the way, so says Peter Moore.

Dreamcast sold 400k in 4 days. X-Box with little hype in the mass public, where as were seeing Dreamcast commercials way early for DC, should sell out, but not in sell-out frenzy. They have 3 months, I am sure they can produce more than 800k.

Actually, 800K is their proposed launch numbers.  No more, no less.  I hope they do well launch, I really do.  I do however wonder if that 11-01-01 rumored release date change is true.  Almost looks like a rip off of Sega\'s 9-9-99 relase date they had.

Altered, you ignoreing the 500 million dollars of hype MS is spending

Doesnt matter to me, I only see benefits of moving the date up to counteract Nintendo putting their\'s 3 days before, now MS will be before.

This may help even things out a little. I know I can still get my X-Box, then have time laterr to go to Best Buy and harass the kiddies waiting in line for GC.

Backlash shouldnt be too badly...people have another two consoles to fall back on, rather than having to wait for the AAA games, PS2 and GC will have their share

heh. Tekken Tag looked better then Soul Calibur? I thought we debated this before. I still think Soul Calibur looks 10x better. SSX was good, \'cept for some slowdown.

You assume the games will look and play better. While, I am more inclined to give you that they look better from the videos I have saw. You can not say that they play better. Same with your PS2 comment.

Depends on what genre you are into. DOA3 will most certainly impress people if MS does get the demo units out in stores before launch. The same applies to OddWorld.

From the videos and what I saw at the MS Expo, there is nothing on the PS2 that compares to DOA3 or Project Gotham Racing. That is just my opinion. Will that be enough to sell the system? Who knows. The DOA series is popular for some weird reason ( I hate it.) . So, I am sure that will sell some units. Project Gotham Racing isn\'t a launch game though, I don\'t believe.

What? The public is expecting "the next coming of God"? Where did you get this? The Xbox doesn\'t even have that much hype.  As for your comment about "worst looking games". This is your OPINION. Your opinion doesn\'t speak for the masses. We will have to wait until demo units arrive in stores and then see how bad the games are or how good they are.

I think most of the launch content will be up to par or surpassing PS2 games.  DOA3 and Munch just to name 2!  Then games like Panzer Dragoon 3 (this is the next coming of god!), Malice, Jet Grind Radio Future, Project Ego, Project Gotham, etc. will come out and keep the image of a very powerful system.

NGC will be nice looking (wave race, luigi, starfox) but won\'t hoard gamers away from Xbox.  I think all three systems will have a very nice christmas and by the end of 2002 we will be able to tell who got it right.

Any by the way, Chrono.  That was the most immature post I\'ve ever seen from you.  Xbox is coming, get over it!

I have many friends who went to e3,
many magazines and websites that say the same thing
and even the E3 awards say the same thing,

MS was a disappointment at the show!
They won 0 awards and only 2 runner-ups
People who went to e3 I’ve talked to, one a m o d at IGN said the xbox section was empty. He even witnessed one of the crashes, where everybody walked always laughing. He said the ps2 surprised him at the show. And he really liked the gamecube.

So you telling me everybody is lying?
E3 award givers, magazines, people, mods, websites?

Have you ever seen a xbox game in person to know they look that much better? I have not seen one in person, but I’ve played games like ICO, Watched tons of videos, and read opinions and talked with people who have played games like Jak and Dexter and RS2... How many people have you talked to that said MS had an awesome showing, and had games that blew everyone away? How many websites have you seen? How many awards did they win at E3?

This place has turned into xboxcentral!

How many of those will be launch tiltles?
I know Panzer Dragoon 3 is not, its also not exclusive
None of the sega games on the xbox are exclusive.
Mallice may not even be exclusive

hmmmm that seems off, the population ratio for US:Canada is way diferent than that figure, so how did they come up with that? is there more gamers per capita in canada?

Canada has about 30 million people in it while the  US has over 200 million(right?)

thats a ratio of 20:3, while the ratio for the sales is 5:3
