US Playstation in UK?
« on: August 09, 2001, 09:19:39 AM »
Resident in UK about to purchase a PS2, and saw Amazon (US) had what looks to be a great deal :
PlayStation2 console (with controller)
PS2 game Star Wars Starfighter
Sony 8 MB memory card
DVD remote control
- all for the price of $399.99 working out to £280. Even with shipping this would work out much cheaper than a UK purchase. What problems would there be with buying a US console for use in the UK (NTSC vs PAL, voltage requirements, software compatibility etc)?

i think voltage. i work for EB and i have some euro tourists come in asking about the voltage, but i think it should work fine. the only problem would be playing games. PAL games wont work on NTSC. so if you get a US PS2, you would have to order games from the US via Amazon, or other US online stores that ships overseas.

You`ll need a voltage converter 220V to 110V / power: 100W or more.
NTSC is no problem on newer PAL TVs , just make sure to use a RGB cable.
You could PM Ethan Hunt(search in the member list) he`s from the UK and has a US console. He`ll help you out.

But remember: besides the shipping there could be some extra costs (import taxes and duty).

Hi

Ok i looked at my PM but i didnt get a new PM,so here is some info to help you out,you will need a voltage converter, you can get one from these guys http://www.anotherworld.co.uk,just let them know that you have a US ps2 and need a converter, and they will help you out, there isnt a voltage converter on the website you will have to phone them(the number is on the website at the bottom of the page),it cost me £20.
Also have alook at http://www.gamestop.com before you order from Amazon, just to make sure you carnt get a better deal,i think you can make your own bundle over at that website.
And what is your TV like?what make is it?
I would get an american PS2 if i was you, because you can get the games earlier, you could be playing MGS2 and Devil may cry, this year where as people in the uk will probably have to wait until next year, well for MGS2 anyway.
I hope this helps you out,if you need anymore info give me a shout: ):D

See ya:bounce:
On the 15 of March 2002, i was going to leave these forums for good.
But on the 16 of March i realised i couldn\'t ever say bye to you guys, so i am staying here for good!

Just thought i\'d add something.

Check amazon delevery policy. I know for some items at http://www.amazon.co.uk they won\'t delever to outside EU countries. Dunno if it\'s simply a EU thing or if its because they don\'t want such items as DVDs being imported.

So just make sure to double check that incase you go ahead and purchase with http://www.amazon.com.

most likely its because they dont want to deal with customs and it will delay the package even more
