€<<Another Spawn Movie In The Works>>€
« on: August 09, 2001, 10:25:48 PM »
The gang at Comics Continuum got a status report on Spawn 2 from co-writer Steve Niles:  "I\'ve done an initial pass on the script. Todd [McFarlane] has it now.  When he gets back from vacation, we\'ll get together and compare notes. Bottom line is the script is coming along nicely and I think the fans will be pleasantly surprised."

Spawn 2 concept artNiles describes the film a bit further saying, "It\'s very dark.  Not at all a superhero movie, but with plenty of creepy action and suspense."

The rights to the Spawn franchise were picked up by Sony earlier this year, and the project was set up at Columbia Pictures in March.

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane spoke with IGN FilmForce in March about the planned sequel.  McFarlane said he\'s planning to re-invent the film from being an "action/special effects/fantasy movie" to being an "R-rated thriller/suspense, with a little bit of horror mixed in."

The only details known about the story are that Sam and Twitch – two police detectives introduced in the first issue of the comic – are the main characters in the film.  In a press release on Spawn.com, McFarlane says, "Sam and Twitch as the lead characters, will be much like (Richard) Dreyfuss and (Roy) Scheider were in Jaws. Although the movie was called Jaws and featured a shark, the story was really about those two guys hunting Jaws," Todd said. "Ours is similar: It\'s called Spawn, but it\'s really about people chasing shadows. It\'s a story about the people in Spawn\'s world, and you\'ll find that Spawn had an influence on these people\'s lives. It\'s not an action movie in the truest sense; it\'s more of a psychological thriller."

Well, the first was just a terrible piece of crap called a "movie". I hope this one is A LOT better.

I only liked the director\'s cut...:) I enjoyed it, actually. I am hoping the second one is better though. Todd McFarlane is really working on this one, so it should turn out pretty awesome...;)

That\'s what they should have done with the first one. Friggin morons. They let down everyone who knows what Spawn is truly about. That movie was a POS.

The animated series, now that\'s something.

Well since I am a fan of the Spawn comics it sounds good.

They\'ve been talking about a another movie, and that it would be alot more Spawn like (not a horrid peace of crap like the other one).

I think they should make the movie more like the Hellspawn comics, those kick ass since they are basically Spawn but alot more dark and spooky.
I recently discovered that my ass is the key to the universe.....now I must fight to protect my ass from those who might abuse it!!!

Yeah...I agree. There was in absence of the darkness that the comics and cartoon series provide. I\'m sure this one will be awesome.

No...not just as good. It should be WAY better. I liked the first one a lot too, but it was definitely missing something.

Yes, I have seen the new Spider-man trailer. It looks awesome...;) The game looks promising, too.

Oh I have to say the first one wasn\'t bad, but then again it wasn\'t that good.  In Spawn2 let\'s hope that it\'s what Todd says it is.
