"Namco to bring fighter to Gamecube?
Gamecube owners have even more to smile about as Namco plans to bring top fighter to the super-powerful console
According to US reports, Namco intends to bring one of its most popular fighting franchises to Nintendo’s Gamecube console. Bok! This basically implies either the Tekken or Soul Calibur series’ is heading to Nintendo’s box of wonders in the not-too-distant future.
It is unclear which of these two majestic series will spawn a Nintendo-based sequel, but it could well be Tekken as Tekken Tag has already been linked with Gamecube in the past. Could it be Tekken 4 or Soul Calibur 2? You certainly can’t rule either of these titles out, as Tekken 4 is heading to the arcades in July, while Soul Calibur 2 is reportedly well under way. One source reported that it knew for a fact Namco was bringing one of its “big fighting franchises” to Gamecube and that its product would not be “ports of old games.” A spokesperson for Namco could neither confirm nor deny the existence of the title. If this is the case, it certainly bodes well for the future of Gamecube that third-party companies such as Namco will port their biggest properties onto the console. A lack of triple-A third-party titles was, of course, one of the biggest thorns in the side of N64. Gamecube’s gonna rock: the press see it, the kids see it and the developers see it. We’ll bring you further details as soon as we can. "
