The draw distance is not that good (You can see where the course just "drops off" and where the background picture starts), but the whole look of the game looks beautiful.  It looks a lot more realistic that SSX does.

I still don\'t know why more companies aren\'t trying to implement the graphical capabilities of PS2. SSX could definitly look about 20 times better from what I\'ve seen lately. I mean...COME ON!!

Easier said than done.  There are a lot of factors that are keeping the developers from making awesome looking games on the PS2.  1.  As you know, the PS2 is very hard to develop for.  2.  Developers aren\'t really sure what the PS2 is capable of.  It has a very different architecture than anything else, which makes it a little risky to try and program something astronomical.  I think they eventually will get over their fears and will learn/see what the PS2 is really capable of, and try to push the PS2 to its limit.

recent news from a couple of developers say that they have done everything they can..... One major thing that\'s holding back the incredibly realistic games is the small memory... That\'s really starting to scare me!:(

Yeah, but Team Ninja said they maxed out the PS2 with DOA2:HC, which is obviously not the case.  Like I said before, the developers are not really sure just how powerful the PS2 is and what it is capable of doing.  I am not sure either, but to say that they maxed out the PS2 in just 1 year is just their way of admitting that they are not sure exactly what to do next on the PS2.  I think Sony needs to help the developers understand how to use the architecture better.

Baldur\'s Gate looks a lot better than anything else on the PS2 from what I\'ve seen -- Even better than GT3 and MGS2.  I think the developers just need to learn more about the PS2 architecture before they can advance in graphics.  Saying that the memory is what is holding them back means that they are not streaming in the data like the PS2 was meant to do.  Once they learn how to do this, we will see a big jump in graphical quality.

Then again I still understand some of this I just want you to explain how they would do this....

Hey, I\'m a gamer, not a PS2 programmer. :p :D  Like I said, Sony needs to give them a little push in the right direction.  So far, the only game that is taking advantage of the streaming technology is Jak and Daxter.  You\'ve probably seen pics and movies of the great textures, awesome animations, and infinite draw distances.  Like I said, this is the first game that uses the streaming technology, and is kind of like the guinea pig of this technology.  Just imagine how good Naughty Dog\'s second game will look when they fully understand how texture streaming works.

Huhmmm..., It\'s a bit of a shame actually, when you think about it : that the games industry, being high tech, is able to pump out
exactly one game that uses the PS2 correctly after one year of it\'s release.
This doesn\'t seem right.

Yeah, it is a shame.  But you have to remember how big of a change this is.  For the past 10 years (probably even before that), games were designed to load up a level before you play on it instead of while you\'re playing on it.  It will take time for developers to adjust, but they will eventually.  Either that, or completely ignore the PS2\'s 15 million userbase and go program on an easier-to-program-for console. :)
