As part of its continuing attempt to clarify the means by which Japanese gamers may access its upcoming PlayOnline online gaming service, Square has announced that the system will in fact support ADSL broadband connections. Though ADSL is as yet not very common in Japan, Square presumably anticipates a gradual growth in broadband access over the life of the service, particularly with the arrival of the PlayStation 2 broadband network adapter.
So far, NTT and only a few other providers are announced as compatible, but Square plans to announce further compatible services in the future. For further information on compatible adapters and other issues, check the PlayOnline page here.
