Luigi\'s Mansion in First-Person?

New screenshots reveal a first-person perspective feature in Luigi\'s Mansion. First details here.

August 13, 2001

The latest issue of Famitsu features several revealing new Luigi\'s Mansion screenshots. While there are a few new ghosts and rooms to oogle at there\'s something more important shown -- the Game Boy Horror! Scared yet? Okay, we thought perhaps if we yelled that you might just become fearful of the handheld of horror. A few recent shots of Luigi\'s Mansion showed that the Game Boy monitor on the right-hand side of the screen would in fact be used for radar-like purposes. At E3 the monitor was only used as a clock, gauging players\' playtime. But it seems the final version of the game will hold all sorts of new surprises. The Game Boy Horror being one of the more intriguing additions.

As it turns out the Game Boy Horror will display what appears to be a first-person viewpoint. Having played the game, we can tell you that this viewpoint could come in particularly handy when aiming your vacuum stream at ghouls. It would also be very useful when turning corners or gazing down long hallways. And, knowing Nintendo, we wouldn\'t be surprised if the GB Horror serves other purposes as well, such as getting messages from the professor. One feature it has already been revealed for is your map. At E3 you could pull up the formerly named "Game Boy Color" to survey where you\'d been via a 3D map.

As you can see in the above picture, Luigi is facing where the room entrance likely lies. The Game Boy Horror displays this perspective, giving players a better feel for what lies around them. In the following picture we can also see that the GB Horror is displaying a side-profile of the green ghost, which matches Luigi\'s perspective again.

This particular room was not displayed at E3. It\'s highly likely that Luigi can mess with the clothes rack in the back of the room, causing them to shake. Perhaps he can even suck them up into his vacuum? We\'ll have to wait and see. You can expect full details on all of Luigi\'s Mansion\'s new features when we report live from Space World 2001 in Japan.

hmmmmm sounds good .......

wonder what the will see at spaceworld........
