High Cost of Reserving an Xbox

Hold on... if this is only for pre-ordering, can\'t people wait until launch to buy one?? Not everyone\'s going to pre-order. Or does every X-Box come bundled...

I think you people like to skim over explanatory posts (mine above) and go on thinking the same ole BS.

If people are waiting this long to preorder a system, they should be expected to buy required stuff.

And Sony didn\'t make the stores require game bundles, but the stores made the bundles because Sony screwed them out of Systems, games, controllers, etc. PS2 was just a BAD launch.

Yup this is the end of Microsoft as we know it!  *scoffs*

I would trip if this was the mandatory "set" launch package, but it is not.  The set package is a stand alone system with a controller and it only costs $299.  The bundle was opted there as an initiative to the already increasing demand of the system.  I got my preorder for $299 and nothing has changed yet.  If you are late, well too bad....your lost.  Wait for the next shipment!

I don\'t know why everyone is freaking out.  The first party line up is great.  Surely people will be able to find what they want in it.

I was planning on spending around 600 at launch anyway~

I will get Project Gotham, DoA3, and Halo.  Then my accessory will be the remote.  Then I will get Amped, SSX Tricky, Jet Grind Radio Future, Nightcaster, and Azurik shorty after...

And it is probably just a launch thing as they are expecting massive sales into and through launch.  And they only have around 800,000 to go around.  I bet they will all be picked up on Nov. 8

Kudos to the early, early adopters...

Read the link jack.

This is all assumption.

You are annoying because you believe everything you read, as long as it adversely affects the company you hate.

Bravo, bozco, you have truly shown what it is to be ignorant. You are a shining example of this forum.

I am betting that the smart ones who did it months ago are still going to be able to get it for 300 bucks, with the requirement of nothing further.

Ah... but I remember awhile back that a lot of stores canceled pre-orderes and stopped taking them with the stores in my area (San Francisco, so don\'t say I live in the boonies or anything) being among them.  If your store did not halt the pre-order and will still honor the console only package despite what MS is "ordering" their retailers to do, then damn, you got it made.  Unfortunately for me, after attempting to reserve it at least 15 times in the past 3 months, I have hit nothing but dead ends with both MS and Nintendo at various KB, Toys\'R\'Us, and EB outlets.  It\'s frustrating to hear this regardless, especially since no store would honor any pre-order of mine in the first place.

Fortunately, bundles don\'t bother me as much as they do much of you.  I think this is a ploy by MS to "one-up" Sony as a matter of fact.  I remember Sony\'s software-system sales at launch were rather poor thanks in part to the fact that the system tripled as a PSX and a DVD player as well as the PS2 gaming system itself.  MS more then likely wants to show that its games can sell even when the system doubles as a DVD player.  Then again, there is yet another factor that you all need to consider before jumping the gun here and it goes as follows:

Systems are manufactured and sold at a LOSS in order to be priced competitively.  If the manufacturer doesn\'t make any money, you can bet the farm the retailer doesn\'t make squat.  So, how do you make money?  By selling games.  What if you don\'t sell any games but lots of systems?  You lose lots of money.  How will MS turn a losing situation (a\'la Sony) into a winning one?  By selling systems with games.  It\'s a sure bet that even with these bundles, every system, regardless of price, will be sold launch day.  Why complain?  You think your, generally speaking, little puny voice has any say in how MS will conduct its sales or if MS will sells its systems?  It will sell out at launch, why even bother arguing the point?
Don\'t you ever touch my cape.
-Ryu

You guys are dumbasses ifyou believe that MS is forcing retailers to do this.  Retailers don\'t have to do this, but the ones that do get special incentives from Microsoft such as marketing dollars and promotional materials.  Microsoft is not FORCING developers, they\'re ENCOURAGING them to do so.  Those who accept will be given benefits and those who don\'t won\'t get those benefits.  No big deal.
When all is said and done...the PS2 will be remembered as the console with the best games in Fall 2001.

Microsoft is charging more $$$ for one reason alone:  greed.  Everything M$ does is for money and if it ain\'t for money it\'s more money.  That is all they are about.  Not security, not quality, and certainly not customer support.

My PS2 went out on me and it took 2 trips over 2 months to get it back fixed to me.  But...Sony eventually took care of it.  Will Microsoft fix your X-box if it breaks?  Do you think you\'ll get free tech support with it?  Do you think you\'ll get anything free?

Microsoft won\'t fix the Xbox if it breaks. Xbox is basically an Nvidia console marketed by Microsoft.

wow, those last three posts reek of ignorance.

I am amazed, well not of AM, he spouts dumb crap like this all the time, but with EmpRob, too.

NEWSFLASH PEOPLE - Sony is in it for the money, too! So is Sega!
Nintendo! MS!!

but of course, only MS is evil.

RYU - my preorder is still being honored by Babbages for my original preorder, which was system, remote, extra controller, and 2 games. It is a package deal, THEY set up half a year ago, without M$ influence.

You guys are too funny sometimes.
