Component video question
« on: August 18, 2001, 08:29:07 PM »
I just bought a PS2 today with GT3.  Since I had an old crappy tv, I bought a new 27" Toshiba.  Everyone on message boards was telling me how great componento was compared to S-video or RCA....So where I got my tv, I also bought the only component they had for PS2, which was Monster Cable...it was $40 I think.
Well I get home and hook everything up using the component cable, and I notice a small discalmer on the Monster box that says it doesn\'t provide sound. Now I\'ll admit to not being tech savvy, but I thought after spending ove $40 I would get picture AND sound...but after hooking it up, of course I get no sound....so I had to unhook the component and replace it with the RCA cable that came with the PS2...so, how do I get sound using component cable?

Thanks
Wheeler

It surprise me ps2 have a/v multi out port and the cable you bought only transfer video? weird as it it. Well, if you have a sound receiver, use the optical cable to transfer sound because it actually transfer digital signal. But if you don\'t have digital signal, then don\'t worry about it. How about this, buy a Sony component video cable, its about $30 i think and it have both sound and video cables with it. (5 if you count them, 3 for video and 2 for sound.)  Let me find a pic.

this could be bought at EB.  Maybe at other stores too.  Check Walmart, Kmart, Target, BestBuy, any that is nearby see if they sell component video cable that actually include sound too.

Video is right.  I bought the $35 Monster S-vid and there is a problem with it\'s connection to the ps2.  The picture fades in and out then will just stop working.  I have to go in back and jiggle the damn thing.  Good build quality indeed.  My $9 3rd party s-vid cable works fine.  To make matters worse there\'s no warranty packaged with the monsters so I filled out their warranty card on their site months ago but have not been sent anything.  Poo-poo company.

If you want nice quality cables for the ps2 look at Interact\'s Pro Series line.  They teamed up with Acoustic Research to make em who have a nice rep in the A/V world.  Their component cables are close to $30 less than monster\'s over at http://www.avconnect.com.

But if you want component video AND audio take KIAWB\'s advice and go for Sony\'s.  You could probably sell the monsters on ebay or something.

my Monster componet cables are really loose too, it fades to a light orange then I wiggle it and it comes back......this is the FIRST time Monster cables have let me down...maybe it is the av plug in the ps2 also (I have been changing cables around alot).

im using the monster component cable and theyre working great..ive had no problems with them...the picture looks sharper than ever, specially on games like nba sreet where there is a lot of color movement (as in the uniforms of the players jumping around)....

yeah youll need the optical cable for the sound,  but the sound is digital and sounds a lot better as well....you get what you pay for...yeah monster is expensive and they rip you off by supplying you with like 5ft of cable unless you wanna dish out more flow for another 3ft..lol...but they are the best...i use to sell dtv,  and we would make demos using monster cable and regular av cables and the monster always looked a tad bit better...plus the cables are shielded to protect from static from other near by cables and the 24k connectors provide better contact....
