Xbox Is Killing Itself
« on: August 19, 2001, 02:24:26 AM »
Well everyone talked about 233mhz thing and now it is said that is more true than ever.  When they first started the xbox specs they where yelling how they had the best and how all these specs blew everything out the water and how it was the fastes blahh...blahh...blahhh. Then they drop the specs. Now they wait all the way to august and we finally know the gpu has been droped to 233. That sucks....I was hoping this was fake..but it seems to be true. And not that 233 things is bad, because only fanboys like throwing around specs. It is only 233 drop which is still impressive for the gpu. And still makes xbox the fastest console around.

And now they are charging crazy prices for the bundles and forcing you to pick the games that come in the bundle. I don\'t wanna be forced to take no games.

I have been one of the biggest supporters in xbox...but lately I have not agreed with anything ms has done. You can\'t sell a new console like this. I mean the thing already cost 300 then charging 400 and up for bundles...I had 800 dollars saved...but I am not speding 700 on bundle for periphals and games I don\'t want.

This just sucks....Maybe things will get better for xbox. I am just very dissappointed in ms right now:(   I\'m sure soon as I colm down I will think things over and see what works out for me this November 8. Because  xbox has great software like DOA3,Halo,ww Riw, New Legends, Munch, jsrf,gotham...ect..ect I mean xbox is still looking great. I am just more angry the way they are selling the system and the way they have gone about with the performance drop thing. But if all goes well I will still get my xbox because IT IS THE SOFTWARE THAT COUNTS.

I mean you can\'t sell a system like this. Too high prices. And you can\'t keep droping the specs. Because ppl will only keep taking shots at xbox. And never give it a chance. And it could be the best system out of all 3 but because of minor things like this ppl could turn away. Because ppl are idiots and they don\'t go for the best games. They go for the best marked or the Biggest names.

Damn I take gaming to seriously:o

I can understand your point about the bundles.  Seems like everyone is doing the bundles deal but I was going to spend cash on a memory card, and about 3 games so it\'s not a big deal for me personally.  The 233 mhz clock speed is not a downgrade: they are getting the performance they have boasted while creating a higher yield for GPU production, and as a result the Xbox now runs cooler.

Numerically it\'s lower than 250 but the performance is still the same.  Big deal? Maybe we\'ll have to wait and see but your concerns are well taken friend because I also have thought long and hard about this.  If the performance is the same I could care less just give me the performance you talked about!

NGC flipper clock speed was dropped but the performance for the NGC did not drop.  Maybe this is a common occurance considering Nintendo and MS were guessing the at the clock speed they would have to get to back up the performance figures?  I don\'t know the answer but If NGC can drop Flipper to 162 mhz and put out the games they have been putting out then I do not see a problem with Xbox either.

but at the same time Sony dose a price drop and adds a game bundle to thre line up.

just like the GT3 deal over here we could expect to see the PS2 to be packaged with a known best seller like Final Fantasy 10.

Example

$299 for a PS 2 and Final Fantasy 10 + mem card
and seeing that you can now pick up year old games for £20 over here it just adds to buying power of the PS2.

+ $499 For an Xbox and 3 games.

if you ask me they should of left this a little longer untill they moved like this.

in the long run most people will buy the better value system and not very gamer even knows what GPU and CPU speeds are.

For every step foward MS takes, they take two back.
IN my humble opinion.

Wasn\'t something else increased at the expense of the Flipper speed drop?? That may be why GC\'s performance remains unhindered. But 250 to 233?? I\'m not a hardware techy, but a difference of 17 mhz doesn\'t sound like a lot to me.

so i kept shopping around till i found a store that sold it on its own and bought it....

Yeah, QuDDuS, your points are null and void.

Original people who preordered through sanctioned sites (eb, s etc., babbages, etc) will still get there\'s for whatever THOSE stores decide as how people will have to buy them.

People just now trying to preorder, the ones trying to get one just NOW, will have to buy extra stuff.

Quit whining.

I really doubt that.  When making a console, they make sure everything works out perfectly by using a lot of math.:)  They wouldn\'t just guess on something as important as that.
I think they were just not hyping up their consoles by saying a lower performance than what was really possible.  Then, the developers would have more power than they originally thought - which would make them very happy.:)  That\'s my guess as to why they do that.

And good point Animal Mother.  When will Microsoft learn, they cannot have a monopoly in video game consoles like they have in Computer OSs.  Fortunately, this "package" deal won\'t be going on forever.

Monopoly?  Damn, ignorance is bliss, and it would be mean to destroy the happiness on these forums.
When all is said and done...the PS2 will be remembered as the console with the best games in Fall 2001.

So you\'re saying that Microsoft doesn\'t have their OS on almost every IBM compatible computer?  Linux users are growing in number, but Microsoft still has a monopoly on OSs.
