Listed at only $19.99 and a release date of 09/03.

Not that bad of a price.  Plus it\'s supposed to be the best remote and have updated drivers.  All that for 20 bucks isn\'t that bad.

I\'m gonna post this in both threads to do with the remote Bandit cause you are behind on the news. I posted this about a few weeks ago. Go read this link.

Thanks for the link Answer.  It seems the driver update won\'t do anything about giving us progressive out which I figured it wouldn\'t anyway.  I wish the article would explain more on how it improves the system drivers.  I already have a DVD player so the PS2 can do what it does best; play videogames.  Don\'t care much about paying for a remote so the PS2 can act more like a DVD player.

ok so maybe it does update drivers..but here are a couple of things..

1. this is in the EUROPE aka PAL..some people are in the US, so the US might not even see this
2. quote from the link you gave..."Not only does the system drivers for the PlayStation get updated but the BIOS disc also allows the PlayStation 2 to interact with all the functions on the official DVD remote, functions such as search and slow motion. As no other remotes come with an upgrade disc like this, they can’t allow the vastly improved interaction with movies as the official remote can. So what exactly can the official remote do? Well here’s a listing of all the features that are included with the remote...it says the drivers get updated...so from v1.3 to 1.4 ? what a big update..and BIOS disc lets the official remote interact with the functions..

where does it say what was updated in the drivers. SONY always update drivers when they release the next batch of PS2\'s..some people here have v1.0 in their PS2 and some with 1.3 or 1.1. the ONLY difference between 1.0, 1.1, 1.3 is apparently the version number and some corrections are made i.e. spelling corrections were made. other then that, the DVD drivers and all the other drivers are exactly the same. SO like i said, and i\'ll say it again, i\'ll wait for the OFFICIAL NEWS about updating drivers when SONY announces it and what is being updated

If you read the whole article you will see at the bottom that it is now more compatible with dvds. They tested out the extra Toy Story disc that didnt previously work and it now works with the new drivers. So I\'m sure it will probably enable the ps2 to read more dvds, but not all.
And I consider this to be official word from Sony cause Sony Australia is still Sony.

Thats just a number. Its the next number along. It could be a really big update. They just might of decided to call it 1.4. They could of called the new version 3.4 if they wanted but with exactly the same updates. The name for it means nothing

Hi I live in Greece and when I bought the PS2 it came with a registration card. After I sent the registration card I was sent a second demo cd and every two months I get a Sony PS2 newsletter(in greek). The latest newsletter talks about the official DVD Remote and also has a picture of it. It says that it will add these new functions to the DVD player: Fast forward and reverse with 3 speeds,4 different programs of playing: repeat, program , shuffle, Ab repeat. Slow motion Play in reverse, subtitle menu, optical angle menu, and sound menu.
