Network connectivity for the PS2
« on: August 21, 2001, 09:12:00 AM »
It seems that the big selling point for the X-box will be the network connectivity which is already supported.  As far as I know, X-Box will be the first console system to support network play.  This will be huge, and probably one of the main reasons I would go out and buy one.

I know that Sony has this in it\'s pipeline, but is it going to be accelerated because of the X-Box?  What\'s the current timeline for it?

Is network play the same as online play?If so Dreamcast would be the first and PS2 would be second becouse it goes online in November.I think:)
Man.. if BookerT lit a fart during a Spinner-oony.. it truely would be the most electrifying move ever..

The Saturn also had netplay via the NetLink!
The DC had the 56k modem.

If you are talkin\' online play, than techincally that has been around for years. There was Xband with the 16 bit systems and I believe there was also something before that. The XBOX also won\'t be the first system to come "internet ready", as the DC came with the 56k modem in the US.

If you are talkin\' true network play - consoles networked together, than the PS2 supports this also via the iLink cable.
So, really the XBOX has not brought any innovation to the table in this catergory.  IT has been done before, all MS  is doin\' is making it so broadband users can use their connection from the get-go.
