Madden 2002 Rocks!!
« on: August 22, 2001, 09:19:06 PM »
I know the crowd here is not particularly big on sports games, but I had to say something about this game.  I had read basically that the game was pretty much Madden 2001 with updated rosters, but  I have played the game for about an hour and I am pleasantly surprised.

1.  There are way more tackling animations.  If you don\'t get a square hit, chances are the runner will break the tackle.  If you do bring him down, it is by means of a leg tackle or a "drag down".

2.  The players look much more realistic.  Bodies are better proportioned, and the big name players have similar faces to their real-life counterparts.

3.  They have real coach\'s names, and the coaches are perfect matches for their counterparts.

4.  The game just looks nicer.  The little animations and everything look better, and the game seems so smooth.

5.  The coverage on the game is extremely lifelike.  You can no longer pick apart defenses with outs and fade routs.  The CB\'s will step in front of an out and pick it off if the ball is not thrown at the right time.  This basically eliminates the "bread and butter" plays that everyone likes to use on crucial 3rd downs.

6.  They have improved the punt coverage.  In the old madden you had to call a fair catch EVERY time.  This version gives you some room to maneuver(sp?) most of the time.

7.  There are coaches challenges (small feature, but it makes it more life-like)

8.  After year 1 in dynasty mode you have to leave 5 players unprotected for the expansion draft.

9.  Has a nice create a team mode.  The most in depth create a team mode I have seen.  Uniforms, Logo\'s, Stadium, etc. is all up to the user.

Anyone who was just going to wait it out with 2001 is making a mistake IMO, 2002 is a must have for Madden fans.

Ahem...nice work

But wheres the create-a-player. I have never seen such a thing, its so cool.  Everythings ajustible in this game.  The only part i got some beef with is you get sucked into blocks and theres no create-a-stadium feature, that and everytime you go up by more than 14 points madden goes, boy these guys are racking up the points today or somehting like that.  I like the crowd noise and pumping up the crowd actually makes them louder.  Madden is really only annoying when he\'ll say hey what about (player name) and summerall will comment on it, its annoying but other than that its a solid football game with nice tackle annamations but the best....is you are able to knock of the persons helmet :)

what ever happens the choice is on you....in john madden 2002   god im luvin it

:(
I personaly thought that in Madden 2001 the punt return was too easy.  I could score a touchdown almost every time.  Infact the only time I didn\'t was when i did a major stuff up.  Even on the hardest difficulty i could score a touchdown 50% of the time.  lol it was funny because by the end of the season i looked in statistics and Ricky Williams had 19 punt return touchdowns.
It just made it a bit unrealistic.

Looks like a pretty good game though.  Definitly going to get it.;)
what?!? Were you expecting a signature?

I forgot to say one more thing I really like about the game.

If they made some players on your team suck, even though they are pretty good in real life, you can edit their attributes.  I am a Dolphin fan and they really dissed the fish.  Anyway, I went in and made the players a little better and now it is much more life-like.

I\'ve got one question for you guys, I just finished making my team, but how do I play as my team or add players to it. I went to the team select screen and mine wasn\'t there. Please help.
Man.. if BookerT lit a fart during a Spinner-oony.. it truely would be the most electrifying move ever..

Any negative aspects to the game?
A schizophrenic patient will not allow anyone to touch them; not because they would do them some harm, but because they might electrocute them.

vinivedivichi...very nice post.  I purchased Madden 2001 and have loved it (screw the easy punt returns...the game rocks!).  Found it hard to talk myself into buying the sequel when I get soo much enjoyment from 2001...but your review offered more than a few reasons for me to consider it...  Good job & great to have you along in the forums!!!

On a side note, while I\'ve not gotten into it greatly yet, I recently purchased NCAA 2002 & that\'s been a blast so far!:D
