My impressions of Spaceworld 2001....
« on: August 23, 2001, 09:00:37 AM »
All I can say is that Sony has no reason to worry. A closer look at the games running (and not FMV like at E3) reveals that GC games are not much better looking than PS2\'s. I mean SSX looks way better than 1080 Snowboarding. The cell-shaded Zelda looks weird, Herdy Gerdy looks just as good. The new Mario game only just manages to look better than Mario 64!

PS2 all the way!

All of those games you commented on are no where near complete; they will greatly improve in all areas, including graphics, by the time they are released.

Also, Sony never really had to worry about Nintendo stealing their thunder anyway.  Both companies are targetting two separate age groups, so they should be able to coexist without much problems, much like the PSX and N64 did.

Since 1080 2 is so obviously early in development it\'s pretty hard to compare the two.

NOT EVEN CLOSE. I really dislike the style that the next Zelda is going in, but Herdy Gerdy cannot compare to the recent Zelda shots. Everything looks 100% cartoony unlike Herdy Gerdy. I\'m very impressed but yet very disapointed.

Any credibility you had just flew out the window. Kudos.

I\'m very disappointed with what was being shown at Spaceworld.
Not very impressive IMO, and I too, think that Herdy Gerdy almost as good, if not as good, as Zelda...

The way this thread is turning out, it will either be moved to the console debate forum, or closed. I\'m guessing the later.

I\'m not really impressed with what Nintendo has shown IMO. However, its early, and things could change.
Opinions are not important.

Ok then, don\'t believe me, I just found this from Gamespot

"Read our impressions of the first Mario game for the GameCube.

At its pre-Space World press conference today, Nintendo showed a brief video clip of the sequel to Super Mario 64, Mario Sunshine (working title) for the GameCube. The game seems to be early in development, as many of the textures looked like they were pulled directly from Super Mario 64"

Sorry for stating the truth

You have obviously never seen the thing in action- it looks gorgeous. How long has Gamespot been anti-Nintendo again? I wouldn\'t take any of their information as fact. Every other Nintendo site says it looks great. :)

I have the mariocd.wmv vid right here, its 4.31MB, and doesn\'t look that impressive. Jak & Daxter woops it IMO. I also have the Zelda one, man the game looks pants. I admit the old style Zelda looked good, even on the N64. But the new cel-shaded one look so cack

Jak&Dexter does not woop it IMO. It may have a SMALL egde though. All J&K has going on for it is a highly colourful look and high polygon count. By E3 or when ever the new shots are released, Mario will have J&D smoked. Bleh, the 2000 SW Zelda demo has it smoked. :(

Well at least there\'s some good news, the GC comes in black too! So if I do get one, it won\'t look out of place next to my PS2. Black also looks more grown up. I just wish the DirectXbox didn\'t have the huge green cross of slime running through it.

That\'s if they make a J&K2, which I really can\'t see happening.
