I guess this would work for what you have in mind, but it seems like overkill to me.  This is basically a high quality line doubler designed for home theater use, so that various input sources like satellite, cable, and VHS can be displayed in 480p mode.  This price is common for these types of devices.

Cored took the words out of my mouth.  These are mainly for use with front-end projectors.  Faroudja makes some reference quality vid processors/scalers if you\'re serious about getting one.
