"Nintendo on Target Audience
In a conference call this morning to investors, journalists, and retailers, Nintendo revealed the reasons for targetting the younger market with the development of their games.
Mr. Iwada defended Nintendo\'s decision to create "games to appeal to young people," citing that they represented the common interest of most gamers.
"Nintendo is really the only manufacturer to target this audience. Secondly, young players are important for another reason. We believe they are the purest indicators of games," said Iwada.
"Ten years, twelve, and fourteen year old (gamers) distinctly say, I dont like that if they find games too frightening or challenging," explained Iwada.
This is interesting to note because Nintendo does not rely on marketers when designing games. Instead, it seems that they design games with the broad market and young gamers in mind.
"(Our goal) is to make games that will be fun for all ages, no matter what their tastes. This has always been a goal for nintendo: something that will please everyone. (With Luigi\'s) Mansion, Wave Race and Pikmin, we believe we\'ll be coming with games that everyone in the family thinks will be fun. This is a central point of The Nintendo Difference. (byc)"[/b]
