If you can afford it, go for the P4 2Ghz. You won\'t have to upgrade for a looong time (wait a min, this is the computer industry we\'re talking about here). If you want to be thrifty and want power, then the AMD will do you fine.
And if you are ambitious and not afraid to try new things, ditch the Gateway and make the computer yourself. You will learn A LOT of helpful things in the computer world & won\'t be on the phone as much trying to get in contact with tech support.
Bits and pieces I have probs with:
- What kind of power supply does Gateway budle with their towers? Is it an off the shelf no-name? This is one of the probs with getting a pre-setup system.
- If you can afford the fastest processors, I\'d go for
at least a 19" monitor. Mitsubishi is a good company, but Samsung and Sony seem to be the best performers for the same dough. Look for a monitor that can display 1600x1200 @ 75Hz, .24dp or less.
- As stated before, forget WinME and go with Win2k if you can.
- More more more RAM.
- Screw the AOL. AOL sucks plain and simple. Invest in cable or DSL (if you can of course). If you must get dial-up go with Earthlink, a local company, or someone else that doesn\'t have customized browers.
- Getting a pre-made computer also means getting useless software that you ultimately pay for. Expect to find your HD littered with things you\'ll never click on. Also how fast is the ata HD? 33, 66, 100? I\'m guessing it runs at 7200 rpms...
- Nvidia GF3 graphics card? That\'s too fast. Go with an ATI 128 or Monster 3D 8mb. Or even try an integrated vid card that\'s already conveniently in your motherboard.
Hmmmm, where\'s the BS comment?
