Hmm, check your DVD player? Or are you using PS2... check the menus (I can\'t really remember, I haven\'t played DVD\'s in a PS2 for a looong time). There must be a setting for 4:3 or 16:9 (widescreen).

Edit:
Unless it\'s letterboxed of course (where the \'black bars\' are on the picture on a 4:3 display nomatter what you do).

Perhaps you could give a better explaination of what the problem is?
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAPETIME!
(thanks Chizzy!)

If you have a 4:3 set then Black bars = Good.  You are seeing the movie the way the director intended even though your entire TV is not being used.  Now I know it\'s ultimately up to the consumer, but try posting this question in an HT forum and you will get some trouble. :)  They\'ll say things like

"How do you turn off those darn black bars!?!?!  I wanna see more of the picture!"

or how bout

"I can\'t see the full movie when those damn black bars are in the way!"

of course I\'d never say stuff like that.....  or did I just say them?

You can\'t just "turn Widescreen off". If the disc can be played in Fullscreen mode, then you either have to flip the disc over or select Fullscreen when you start up the movie, depending on which movie you have. If it\'s Widescreen only, then there\'s nothing you can do about it. Don\'t like it? Buy a VCR.

It sounds like you have a small screen TV.  If you have a high Definition Television like me than you wouldn\'t be complaining about Widescreen.  If this is the case, you should consider getting a Sony 32 inch Trinitron.  They are preety cheap now.  High Definition TV\'s are expensive, but watching DVD\'s are amazing.  It should still look great on a flat screen 32 inch Trinitron, so buy one!

Men In Black: Ultimate Edition has both recorded on the disc.  The widescreen is much better.
