I no longer like Resident Evil :(
« on: August 31, 2001, 05:13:00 AM »
I have played most of the previous versions of R.E. and I have always kind of liked the series.
Then while playing CV the other night after about 2 hours of walking back and forth and back and forth and getting lost, and walking over here and pushing a button, and walking over there and pushing some more buttons, and walking around looking for more buttons, and then sometimes shooting something I started to think..............WTF is the point here????
I was playing for 2 hours just moving this polygon person around looking for $hit and puching buttons. Its was friggin BORING.
Then I\'m thinking, I should get the walkthrough so I could find stuff faster, then I\'m thinking WHY??? So I can do the same $hit over and over???
I just came on here a few days ago praising RE, now I am taking that back. I think it is a played out series that need MORE action and LESS repeditive walking around clueless.
I think when this series first came out it was new and fresh. Now it\'s like listning to a new Areosmith song or something.
I don\'t know, maybe I\'m just geting old.
BTW I STILL stand by my praise of the DMC demo!

 Yeah it happens. I found Resident Evil: CV cool. Although I know what you mean about it not having much originality from its prequels. I didn\'t get stuck or lost or frustrated though (only at one bit where I eventually figured it out).

I know that. And Capcom knows that too.I think they want to make the games longer with that. I think the DC version of C.V started development before RE 3, so it has that old shool RE1+2 gameplay (Though they could have thought of a change before).
I just hope the next one will be more different and fresh.

I would love the RE titles if the controls were more MGS2 or DMC like.

Yeah. In fact, infomation about RE:CV came out before RE3 (and was supposed to be released before RE3, apparently got delayed until after RE3) which is why it has its old school RE gameplay.

As for RE:CV, I like it. Its a great game. However, I\'m finding it really annoying with all the back tracking. Next could be a "spoiler" but I\'m just mentioning the places I\'ve visited (and revisited) in the game. First, do everything possible in the Prison, then go to the mansion, go down to the airport, to the training ground, go back to the mansion, THEN go back to the prision to get ONE thing, go back to the mansion, opps, forgot something? Go back to the prison...starting to piss me off (but I still like the game).
Opinions are not important.

The thing is, Capcom is in a bad situation now. Yes, they see the mainstream demand for Resident Evil to be changed. They see people saying, "change the control", " less backtracking", "more shooting" and other various things. However, if they do any of this, they are changing the forumla that made the series so popular from the start. Yes, they can change these things. If they do though, they risk upsetting a large fanbase (I know I would be upset) and reviewers tearing it apart for not being like classic Resident Evil, because Resident Evil still gathers excellent reviews from most places.

Resident Evil 3 for the most part, did go the more action way. There was still quite abit of backtracking but it did have more action. It also had random puzzles, random items and random enemies. Was Resident Evil 3 any good? Depends on which group of players you are in. The \'hardcore\' RE fans, like me, detested the game. Then there was others who was amazed and loved it.

Maybe, Capcom can make two series of Resident Evil? A constantly serious / backtracking/ classic RE and then one more action based. Sort of like they did with Street Fighter and Marvel Vs Capcom.

By the way - Devil May Cry was originally going to be Resident Evil 4 and then it took on a life of its own and they changed some stuff and it became Devil May Cry. So, it is very possible Capcom is looking towards a more action based Resident Evil installment.

i was waiting for that one......but it doesnt change my opinion about how boring this type of gameplay is....and this extends to non-RE games as well.....( i remember you deleting your Soul Reaver saved game because you got tired of pushing blocks. )

The Resident Evil series still sells by the truckloads though and they also keep getting rave reviews, so why should Capcom change? Unlike Edios\' franchise Tomb Raider, which keeps getting worst and worst, Capcom for the most part keeps getting great reviews and selling mass amounts of each game.

Yes, there is plenty of people yelling to Capcom to make it more action than puzzles. Capcom realized this when Dino Crisis didn\'t sell that well, so they changed the gameplay in Dino Crisis 2 to more action and I imagine they will keep that in Dino Crisis 3.

Hmm,. I guess I\'m in the minority but I loved CV on the DC. Sure, the first REs were scarier and more fresh, but CV\'s puzzles made more sense (somewhat) and the storyline was the best out of the three (IMO.) I still like RE2 best.

May someone smack you silly now? ;)

Code Veronica received rave reviews and held by most DC owners as one of the greatest DC titles.

As for the people saying the game is old and what not. Yes, it is old. Its a port of a year old game. Dreamcast owners have been playing a better version of this game since March of last year. The texures was better on the DC, the lighting and everything, in my opinion.

In the end, if you like the previous Resident Evil\'s, you\'ll like Code Veronica. If you\'ve grown tired of Resident Evil, then you won\'t enjoy Code Veronica and I doubt you\'ll enjoy Silent Hill 2 also or Alone in the Dark : New Nightmare. The survival horror genre has always been about action and puzzles elements mixing together.

If you want more action, then go to the Dino Crisis series, Onimusha or even the up-and-coming Devil May Cry, which doesn\'t focus that much on puzzles. Though, from what I have read Devil May Cry also has its share of puzzles, so I wonder if people are going to complain about that also?
