Is anyone aware of plans that will have PS2 gamers playing each other from different sides of the world ala PC games such as Half-Life and similar games?

Does any game already support online gaming?

Yes, Sony hs talked about Online plans for little over a year now. And currently only one game has the Online Function in it. Armored Core 2 Another Age. However since the PS2 itself can\'t get online untill November you can\'t play others untill november.

Im not perfect so you might be right. I\'ll check the next time I go to the store and see if the game box will tell me. I\'ll post it here when I can. But by then hopefully someone can give us all the correct answer.

I love online console gaming. I have a dreamcast and 19 games, and a good portion of them are online. My most cherished one is PSO...I love it. If you want sme great online games go pick up a dc for 79 bucks and buy PSO and some other online games. As for the PS2, i think its going to be awesome online. Twisted Metal Black is coming out wiht an extansion set soon like in November wich will allow online play, and theres tribes 2, and thps3. The PS2 is really shaping up, IMO.
Currently Playing:

Xbox- Amped, SSX Tricky
Dreamcast- Rayman 2, THPS2
Nintendo 64- Mario 64, Mario Kart 64

Playing Soon- DOA3, Mario Party (possibly)

The following games will be online for ps2:

Twisted Metal Black: online add-on (probably 30 bucks..?)
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
Socom: U.S Navy Seals
Frequency
Final Fantasy XI
Gran Turismo Online (gt4, or gta 3 b-spec)
Tribes 2
Project Eden
Armored Core 2:Another Age(only in japan)
Capcom vs SNK 2 (I think this is japan only, could someone clear this up?)

----------
 MAYBE
----------
NBA 2k2
NFL 2k2
Age of Empires 2
Everquest (I head this was coming out for the ps2?)

ALSO, I read that Sega are very close with Sony, and that they have a BIG secret regarding online play.

Could it be Phantasy Star Online 2.0??

No, PSO v.2 is already out for the DC in Japan and.... I think.... November it\'s slated to hit stateside. The NGC has already been confirmed as a recipient of PSO v.2, so a PS2 version wouldn\'t need to be a secret because it would have reletively little impact. (I have also heard rumors of Sega porting v.2 to all 3 remaining consoles in this generation, but that\'s just the chatter from Oberon.)

Now, maybe it could be PSO2 v.1...... but I sincerely doubt that. We\'ll just have to wait and see.
