I didn\'t believe the news at first. My sister woke me up around 9 o\'clock sayin that the WTC was GONE and the pentigon had been struck.
And although my deepest sympathies go to the familys and loveones who were injured or have perished in this tragedy, I can\'t help but feel a great sence of relief. This was no small operation like the Murrah building or the nerve gas released in Tokyo\'s subways. What happened today has been in the works for a long time, and although I don\'t quite think it\'s over yet, I thank god that things weren\'t much much worse than they were.
Think of the possibilities that COULD have been. One of those planes could have been carrying a small nuclear device or a biological weapon. More than that though, what if the terrorists had done more stategic thinking and hit more with the intent to cripple rather than to show force.
The WTC and Pentigon are more of symbols of American pride. Imagine instead, that the terrorists had chosen to crash into Wall Street and the Nasdaq instead. What if they had found a way to take out NORAD rather than attack the outdated icon of the American military.
There are plenty more targets out there which would have had a greater impact on us. In total, 4 planes crashed. What if those 4 planes had hit 4 of the 6 Nuclear Power plants which supply the east coast and midwest with power. Or what if they had targeted 4 of our major oil reserves. Things could have been much worse, and I thank god for the lives he spared today by making these terrorist either to stupid or too idealistic to attack more viable targets. I also damn the same god, for creating these people in the first place.
A line must be drawn. Today\'s events were a test.. a test of our president\'s resolve, of our strength as a country, and of our ability to lay down our personal amnitys to work together to find out who is ACTUALLY behind this and make sure that justice is carried out swiftly and efficently. The next terrorist attack may just be as far beyond this in intensity than what this is beyond the Oaklahoma City bombing.
May god shepard and protect the soul of those who have died this day, and watch over those who can never forget it.
