Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr vs. RGB

I am getting a new TV this weekend with component input, so naturally i will be purchasing a component cable for my ps2.

But in the system configuration, the component video out has two options, I can either select Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr OR RGB.

What is the difference between the two?

Use the rgb, it´s the best video format you can get...

If you\'re TV has component inputs then you have to use component out which is Y-Pb-Pr.  RGB is a different transfer type that few American TVs have.  There is more or less a 5% difference between RGB and component, and yea RGB is technically better.

fyi- RGBHV is the best video transfer possible when you are forced to use DACs.  SDI is the absolute best, but only when the source can output true digital video.

I Just Rescently got component cables and when you go from RGB to Red/Green/Yellow component your screen will look funky until you change it in your settings......atleast on mine.....probaly the same on evryones unless you always had it set for component...then...it might not.

Ummm...what do you mean Red/Green/Yellow?

Yellow is actually not the primary color, at least not in black screen monitor!  Do you mean Red Green and Luminance cable from component cable?

The Y is actually stand for luminance (brightness) which share some bandwidth with green (yep same cable) while Pb and Pr are true seperate cable transfering blue and red seperately.  

RGB cable is actually better, well slightly because is one that actually seperate the three primary color to three seperate cable, red, green, and blue.  some even have RGBHV seperating red, green, blue, horizontal and vertical sync.

Like someone here said, SDI and firewire might be best because it transfer these signal in digital not analog like RGB or Component Video cable.  I learn that from someone in here.

I also learned the difference between Y Cb Cr and Y Pb Pr.  One transfer in digital format (Y Cb Cr) and other in analog signal (Y Pb Pr).
I am not sure if Y Cb Cr makes any difference between firewire ilink because both transfer digital signal.

that is the color of the plugs....I forgot that it was Y CB/PB CR/PR. I think the one plug is blue not green.....Havent seen the plugs since I hooked them in to my TV..........

RGBHV is what I have with my projection.  Same thing essentially as VGA, it\'s just split into 5 wires.  My Satellite has the VGA out that I use.  Can\'t wait to get the PS2 into progressive scan.

SDI is really only used in the production process.  No one really has it at home.  I see firewire/iLink becoming the norm for digital transfer in the home.  Everything we do is with SDI at work.

If you have the Theta DaVid II or a few other select DVD transports you can have SDI at home.  The trouble is finding a projector that accepts SDI in.  Only Barco and DP Inc. comes to mind.  Director Jon Avnet has one, but he also has $$$

I produce a television show.  I use to work in the news, but got tired of the bull crap stories so I got out.  Now I oversee the editing and production of one show, soon to add several others.
