AMD Athlon processors??????

What do you guys think about the AMD processors? I\'ve heard alot of good things about them and they are cheaper than pentiums.

  I ordered a AMD Athlon 1400MHz(1.4Gig) with 256MB SDRAM and a 20GB hard drive, CD burner and all the other bells and whistles from gateway. I talked the guy down from $1,407.00 to $1,018.00 since I didnt need a printer or a monitor. I also got him to throw in a web cam and an upgrade coupon for Windows XP. It should be here tommorow.

  Anyone here own an AMD Athlon based system?, if so are you happy with it??(not that it matters now, since I already ordered it)

I have an Athlon TBird 1.4ghz and I am VERY happy with it. The Athlon processors are still holding their ground and at times beating much higher clocked Pentium 4s even now. Intel is trying to brainwash everyone into thinking that their processors are superior by releasing slightly higher clocked versions every few months.
Everyone, Mhz does not mean everything!

I run a 1.2 Ghz T-bird w256 PC2100 DDR on a 30GB Maxtor Diamond+

You\'re getting a good system.  Take that XP coupon, wipe your ass with it, and mail it to Bill Gates because that\'s all it\'s good for.

Me has a 1.4Gig athlon and a rather nice 512meg of RAM.

oh and my system case has a see through dark blue face (also very tastful).

thanks for the replies, I was a little worried  about it before. I\'m running it now and it freakin smokes my old computer(HP,PIII 850MHz,128RAM).

I love AMD and their processors, they beat Intel in every way when it comes to raw FPU calculations, and their next gen processors look kick ass aswell.

However recent marketing decisions AMD has made have made me kinda pissed.

They\'re not gonna market the Mhz anymore since they beat Intel on a clock for clock basis so comparing the Mhz of a P4 and a Palomino isn\'t good since the Palomino get\'s more work done in a single clock cycle compared to the P4.

So now it\'ll be called the Athlon 1600 (that\'ll be a 1,4Ghz model) and the Athlon 1900 (that\'ll be a 1,6Ghz model)

Altough they are correct and comparing Mhz isn\'t fair, I just don\'t like the naming scheme. We do need another measurment to replace the Mhz, so so we might try to measure the GigaFlops a processor can\'t pump out or some thing.

And apparently they\'ll also be calling some processors the AthlonXP which just pisses me off immensly.

TC2, are you ready for the headache of XP?  Everytime you add/remove a piece of hardware you\'re going to have to call Microsoft for a new reg key.

I prefer Win 2000 of all Microsoft stuff.  I won\'t move to XP.  Worst.  OS.  Ever.

i dont have a AMD chip but i it will probaly be the next one i get

right now i am running a Intel P3 1000Mhz with a 60gb hdd - geforce3 - sound blaster live - and 256mb ram

along side 256mb o\'ram, 1x 30 and 1x 40 GB hard drives and some other nice stuff (I\'m too lazy to type )

INTEL P4s are the worst cpus ever, my pIII 666 beats the **** out of this p4 1.3 ghz !!! Image  that, it cant even run q3 with 30fps

get AMD cpu\'s, mush cheaper and much faster!

That may be the case.  I only know bits and pieces I\'ve read from reviews.  But our very own nO-One, pr0n-st4r extraordinaire, has already tested out XP.  He should be able to tell you all you need to know.
