Can someone explain to me What makes Ico a great game

Well I\'ve played the Ico demo twice myself and I fail to see what makes people see this game  as great.

Basically here\'s the game as I view it

a.) Big room full of repetitive wall textures and little much else to enjoy graphically.  Sure it looks nice, but not in the way I\'ve been reading from other peoples perception.

Basically find the switch on the 2nd floor activate it then proceed through the open door on the 1st floor

b.) Enter 2nd smaller room with similiar looks. Proceed up a platform jump on chain  climb up swing let go and climb through window

c.) Big room  similiar to last 2. Climb up ladder to upper walk way. Line up with cage that contains the girl jump on cage and release girl.

Here comes the shadow ghosts  and you simply swing away with a 2x4 and eventually they dissapear

Use gorl to  open sealed door

d.) Another smaller room looks similiar to last 3. Climb down in the pist  get girl to follow you. Beat off a dozen  black shadows with a stick then use  small rock to jump over to ledge.
Call girl to you and help her up then use her to open sealed door

e.) Outdoor level. Looks pretty cool, but use of fog kinda fades out the caste. Castle textures are so so.

Proceed to windmill and grab a hold of one of the windmill thingies. Ride to top jump offf, proceed around upper ledge activate switch which activates bridge but only 3/4 of the way call over girl then have her jump to you .

Proceed through sealed doors end of demo



Now I know alot of yu are excited about this game, but from reading through so many comments I was under the impression that there was huge innovations  and that this game will be a classic

I personally am not seeing what the fuss is all about  and I have to believe I missed some things in the demo

anyone want to explain to me what it is I\'m missing  here cause I\'m confused

I dunno but it just seems great to me.

It\'s beauty displayed through polygons.  

The game is an adventure.  There\'s very little action, and everything is based around experiencing the intricate world of ICO.  It\'s something new, which many want to take part in.

i know what your saying when you say this, but look at it this way, the reason i want it so bady is the origionality and mystery behind it, i know it sounds dumb but this will be a brainy game with puzzles and will make your brain hurt from thinking so much, i just love the way it looks and the entier "save the princess" feeling, the only weapon you have is a stick, the monster\'s are shadows, you are a boy that speaks a unknown language and he has a pair of horns on his head, and you have to find your way through a HUGE caslt with fantastic graphics and a whole immersive enviorment, thats all you know. you don\'t know who the main boss is, you dont really know why the girl is there, you dont really know anything about ICO,  most games are completly exploited before relase all the info sucked out of them, this gaem has been un touched, it is a virgin

It\'s unique-ness that can\'t really be put into words...and the graphics.

That\'s what I like about it.


Also...unknown...the boy isn\'t speaking a foreign language...the demo was still in Japanese...

i think its ok but not as good as people are saying its gonna be. i cant wait to get my paws on jak and Daxter

but in the interview they say it\'s not japanese an cannot be decifered into any language wich means... it\'s an unknown language, correct me if im wrong

I really do not see anything really unique about the game besides the fact you  have to walk a girl through  the castle and help her to get out along side of you.  
Basically from the demo you walk from room to room or section to section and solve the needed puzzle to get to the next room or section. We\'ve seen this type of gameplay in quite a few 32 bit gen games. Sure the puzzles are dressed up some but in the demo I can\'t say that the puzzles gave me any if much feeling  that I just got to have  5- 10 hours more of it.
The combat is pretty much 1 button mash in the demo.

The graphics are pretty good, but I honestly do not find them great.  The castle textures are so so. The outdoor portion of the demo looked decent but the fogging faded out the castle some what. Water was awesome, but I don\'t play games just to look at pools of awesome looking water.


I\'m not trying to flame or tell anyone what to enjoy, but I\'ve read quite a few threads at IGN forums about people who consider this game to be the best thing  and would get Ico over MGS2 among other  more worthy games IMO.

I honestly  cannot understand why people are  this excited over Ico, and I really just wanted to know  what it is I must be missing.

i read in IGN that the language the princess speaks has no sub titles but when you beat the game and play it again,  it does..

there are subtitles to your character language though..so you hav e to figure out what the princess says by what your character says...that sounds really cool to me.

Graphics hasnt always been my top prority in games but ICO tottaly impressed me everything looked fairly realistic and those water effects :: ejaculates :: holy s*it  they were hella nice.

As for gameplay its somewhat original in a way i guess, i know the games not 100% original it seems to borow elements from a few games ie tomb raider,oddworld, Prince of persia and so on...

But hell doesent every game borrow something from somewhere? I found the Gameplay of ICO entertaining i think its going to be interesting to see what the final version has in store.

I dont llike GT3 but everyone in the world else does. You dont like ICO but alot of other people do an so on, it all lies in personal taste i guess.

I think that its pretty wierd. I too have olayed the demo and fail to see how great it is. It looks nice and seems somewhat mysteriouse but it doesnt interest me that much

No, I cannot explain it to you.  It\'s beyond my comprehension, but something about this game, just the demo and I\'ve never been big on demos, speaks volumes to me.  I think it\'s the character interaction, the immediate immersion into a completely alien setting, the fact that there\'s absolutely no flash/glitter/what-have-you to set the stage or advance the story.  It just feels personal from the very beginning.

This is my opinion and I apologize if it mimics anyone else\'s answer, I kinda skipped ahead.  Anyway, no, I can\'t explain it to you, I only know that ICO is a great game...

Ok thats wonderful, but why was my question????

No one here has yet to explain to me why Ico is being praised as much as it is

i don\'t know....the demo kind of touched me.....the hero being a ten year old armed with only a stick....the princess being almost like an angel....the demons just blacked out shadows with red eyes...

games are about escape at some point....this game presents another world...
