PS2 DVD playback/sound
« on: September 26, 2001, 07:13:44 AM »
I have a question about DVD / sound on PS2. Is it possible to hook it up to a surround receiver (I\'d assume so :)) and if so, how exactly is it done? Will it work like a stand-alone DVD player would in that area?

I think you just use the Opticle-output and plug it into the SSoundSystem.

PS2 supports 5.1 and DTS..

Im gonna get the DTT3500 speakers soon.. (when I get the cash!)
Cuz the speakers on my TV suxorz ;)

samwise. You can use a optical (Tos-link) cable for CD, DVD, PSone and PS2 games. Or analog cables for dolby surrond, or stereo. If you want DD or DTS sound you must use the optical cable. I use only the optical cable.
The PS2 works just like any other dvd.

SAMWISE... old brother !!!
Such a question out of your mouth ???
SURE !
The PS2 gives an excellent performance in DVD Sound !
But we have to clear up a few things first:
Do you own a Dolby-Digital-only or an Dolby Digital/dts receiver ??? Or may be it´s just a "normal" Surround receiver with no digital abilities ?? OK.... here we go...
1. If you own a Dolby Digital (plus dts or without) you are in Soundheaven ! Just buy an "optical cable" and plug it into your PS2 and then into the receiver... switch the PS2 to optical out and turn all the sweet stuff (DD/dts) to ON... BOOOOOM... what a sound ! :bounce:
2.If you "only" have a normal Surround receiver, then just plug in the cinch cable for left and right sound and switch to the correct output (on receiver) ! There might be some receivers that are only surround but have the optical in... look at your manual to find out what your baby can do for you...
BTW: You should own a few speakers also... ;) ...2 front, 2 rear and one center (may be a Subwoofer) that´s 5.1 !!!

IF IN DOUBT... ASK !!! :D

Thanks for the answers guys. I don\'t actually own a (digital) surround receiver yet, which was why I was wondering exactly what options I\'d have with a PS2. But from what you\'re telling there shouldn\'t be a problem. :)
