Part IV: The Diamond in the Rough“The real me really is no match for the Legend.”
Solid Snake is the ultimate task master for his line of work and his abilities and attitude are surpassed only by none. However, Snake occasionally takes time out to make a few passes at the ladies. Especially those associated with his line of work. Hey, a man is still a man even when he’s a combat hardened soldier. Thanks mostly in part to his flamboyant attitude, Snake has a tendency to make a pass at anything with two female legs and the new rookie involved with this mission, Meryl Silverburgh is hardly an exception to the rule.
When Snake has the chance to speak to a young, healthy, spirited girl, he uses every possible opportunity to ensure that they will have many healthy conversations in the future. On this mission, Snake is almost surrounded by women, three women to be exact. These three are no exception to his following, especially one in particular that he will be seeing much more closely then he would like given the circumstances.
By calling Meryl’s frequency, 140.15, Snake began to initiate a relationship with this
green rookie in order to expedite the terrorist situation along. Suffice it to say, Meryl was more then enthusiastic to assist the
“Legendary Solid Snake.” Meryl quickly began to break the situation down for Snake and fill in quite a few missing details Snake was interested in.
“This is bad.” First of all, Shadow Moses Island is actually a civilian base under military control owned by a dummy corporation of ARMSTECH. This base is to be used for the deployment of Metal Gear REX in its final nuclear launch test in order to finally be adopted by the US military. Fox-Hound was called in to supervise the test since they have proven in the past that they can keep a tight lid on any black ops. Unfortunately, as they were called, they took over the facility and are now holding the world hostage.

Hal Emmerich is now the chief objective of Snake’s mission and he is being held in the Nuclear Storage Building on the 2nd Floor Basement. Snake now knows that Hal is the designer of Metal Gear REX and is possibly the only one who knows how to destroy the thing. Getting to him is an absolute imperative. However, Snake is walking into a deadly trap.
“Just call me… Deepthroat.”Snake enters a clearing after Meryl uses her level five security card and passes through the newly opened door. The clearing is loaded with Snow and a few towers in the distance. Snake proceeds forward until his CODEC beeps. Snake, expecting the usual commentary from his executives instead sees only static and hears a familiar voice. The voice explains that the area is mined with
Claymores and at the end of the clearing is an
M-1 tank waiting to ambush him. The mysterious Deepthroat, as he calls himself, inexplicably ends the call. Snake chooses the best COA and proceeds cautiously.

The M-1 tank is commanded by the Shaman, Vulcan Raven, a huge man tattooed with black ravens all over his body. However, tanks have limited movement and strengths brought by technology and then defeated by technology. Snake utilizes his arsenal and makes quick work of the M-1 and the two guards at the top manning the machine gun turrets. Snake then grabs the access card from the fallen guard and moves on towards the Nuclear Warhead Storage building.
“In battle, it is though as if he is possessed by a demon.”Vulcan Raven appears out of the tank after Snake exits the area and speaks to Liquid Snake over his CODEC. Liquid wants Snake alive and tells his troops not to kill him yet. It sounds like Snake is being allowed to live for some divine purpose. Only time will tell.
