Indian airport authorities say they have received reports that a plane belonging to the state-owned Alliance Air flying from Bombay to New Delhi has been hijacked.
The plane has now landed in New Delhi, but no additional information is immediately available.

The private Indian television station Star News has reported that all 54 passengers are safe but remain on board the Boeing 737, which is parked at an isolated area at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The TV station added that the plane was surrounded by police.

The pilots are reported to have asked for two engineers to come on board.

Police had received an anonymous call reporting that the last flight of the day from Bombay to Delhi had been hijacked.

The world has been on high security alert since the 11 September attacks in the US, when four planes in US domestic flights were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center\'s twin towers, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania.

Yea and Greyhound stopped all bus transportation in the US today due to one driver getting his throat slashed in TN by a Croatian.  Bus crashed and killed 10.  Bus driver is in surgery at the hospital.  Will it ever end???  :( :( :(

I\'m not surprised by the Greyhound incident in the least. Have any of you ever rode via Greyhound? Terrible security. I have rode on Greyhound twice and both times, they only ran my big bag through a metal detector. I had plenty of little bags, to take on the bus and they was never checked or even tagged. I sat next to a guy who had one of his bags filled with pot and other things. With security like that, incidents are bound to happen.

Government convenes

The Indian Government has convened for a crisis management meeting.

Civil Aviation Minister Syed Shahnawaz Husaain said police had received an anonymous call reporting that the last flight leaving from Bombay to Delhi had been hijacked.

The callers have not yet been traced.

Mr Husaain said the pilot contacted air traffic controllers in New Delhi as the plane flew over Ahmadabad, north of Bombay.

The Times of India was quoted by the Associated Press as saying it received a distress call from a passenger on board the hijacked flight.

Alliance Air is a domestic subsidiary of Indian Airlines.

The world has been on high security alert since the 11 September attacks in the US, when four planes in US domestic flights were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center\'s twin towers, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania.
