Here\'s the news:  http://www.teamxbox.com/news.php?id=1947
Quote
According to Coremagazine, the Japanese Computer Entertainment Software Association (CESA) made the announcement today that they have plans to cancel the Spring (not the Fall show. I repeat, not the Fall show) Tokyo Game Show 2002. They are citing falling attendance in terms of overall visitors and corporate participants, and have decided to make the Tokyo GameShow an annual event instead.

The cancellation is expected to hit Microsoft the hardest as they are gearing up for the launch of the Xbox in Japan in February and were expected to have several major announcements planned for the show. It\'s believed the Spring Tokyo Game Show would have factored heavily in Microsoft\'s Xbox launch promotional plans, especially for Japan. It is believed, however, that Microsoft will host an independent event for the Xbox to make up for the loss.

So how do you think this will effect the Japanese Xbox launch?

I think that it is going to hurt the Xbox very badly.  Even if Microsoft has their own show, only the people interested in the Xbox will come to it.  Hopefully Microsoft will have a lot of ads on TV and stuff, and hopefully the Japanese give it a chance even though it\'s an American console.

Naw, no one goes to those shows really, a few thousand at most.  Its print and tv media that are most important.

Also if they do their own show the press will be there and so will some fans.

The cancellation of this show is not even close to MS`s biggest problem in Japan.  It is one more thing, but a minor one at that.

hmmm, i think this might be something MS wanted to attend,
but i think they will be on a nice PR-world-tour campaign of tv spots, magazine/newspaper ads,etc.... and i think this won\'t hurt them that much...

1999/2: 164.000 people (because of the PS2)

2000/2: 130.000

2001/1: 118.000

No big surprise (but a little ;))

I don\'t see why this would hurt X-Box in any way.

They can hold their own show.

Spend money they were gonna spend on a booth and marketing on TV, Print, and the ever-important more exclusive games.

If they are launching in February, a show a while after wouldnt do anything for the launch anyway.

I don\'t think it will affect XBox much, they\'re pretty much screwed in Japan already anyway:D
