Xbox has no future
« on: October 13, 2001, 06:38:53 AM »
Im not being bias... rather im just voicing my opinion on what I\'ve seen thus far. Alright now I know im going to get lots of XBOX fanboys after me so why not start it off..

Reasoning:
1. Xbox claims to run 100 to 200x smoother graphics and speed than the Playstation 2 console. Yet every movie and image shows a little difference between the two. Perfect example.... Project Gotham which runs about 40Million FPS it looks pathetic in comparison to a 9Million FPS Gran Turismo 3. So... Where\'s all that glitter and Ooooh\'s and ahhhhhh\'s. If Xbox was planning on making people buy their system because of graphics then well they have failed big time.

2. Japanese gamers will not accept the Xbox. Its true... You can say whatever you want but they have their egotistical pride on line. Even if the Xbox is a huge success in the US the Japanese market will not accept it. So sony which still reigns the king in Japan will take advantage of both US and Japanese success while the Xbox just... well does good in the US. So heres some financial losses...

3. The Games so far look like complete and utter PC ports and horrible sequels. The only game so far that has impressed me is DOA3, and Project Ego (Which looks great). Besides that I see Sony\'s launch all over again. Not that I despise Sony I like both the Playstation and Nintendo consoles... And look forward to both being success\'s. But really even the soon to come HUGE HITS blow.... I have not seen one game in calibur with Final Fantasy IX which was im my opinion the worst FF game ever... And that\'s pretty sad that a PSOne game can crush any Xbox game at the moment.

4. Split Launch will cause less people to buy the xbox because Nintendo is right there plus The all mighty god of a game MGS2: Sons of Liberty is there.... So its going to be a shortcoming of units sold. Im going to laugh right then...

5. No Advertising... Where was that half billion advertising money.... Was it used to beg Britney Spears to be impregnated by Bill Gates....

That\'s my reasoning if you differ id like to hear why.... Thanks for reading buh bye...

1. Perfect example: DOA3--looks better than anything anywhere.  And PG doesn\'t look pathetic compared to GT3.  From what I hear it\'s pretty close.  This in itself is a failure for the xbox, but I\'m just making that small point.

2.  You may be right about Japan, but the American and European markets are big enough to make it profitable.  PC games are almost exclusively American and they do nicely.

3.  This is a completely ridiculous thing to say.  Give your head a shake.  There isn\'t a single PC port on the machine and I can\'t think of any game that resembles a PC game.  What the hell are you talking about?  This is a year old argument that simply is not valid anymore.

4.  Split or not, XB is going to sell every system it ships until Chrismas--after that who knows?  Also, I would say that XB and GC cater to different markets so it\'s not that big a deal.

5. You are right there is no advertising.  But with preorders selling out everywhere, the short term success is assured.  There is no need to advertise now.  After launch I suspect there\'ll be more.

Does this equal success?  I\'m not sure.  I\'m a little underwhelmed by the launch too, but you are way too closeminded and bias to the point of not being fair.

O_o; Xbox, Microsoft, or its fans have never claimed it runs 100 to 200x smoother than the PS2. More like 3-4. :p Have you seen the new PGR movies at TeamXbox?... Have any of you?... The game looks amazing. In my honest opinion I think it blows GT3 out of the water(I own GT3, btw. I\'ve been playing it to death. :)). I can tell just by looking at those low res movies. I cant wait to see it on an HDTV. :) Lets use another example, shall we? HALO is pushing tons of geometry and using lots of spiffy special effects, and it all runs at a smooth 30fps. I honestly haven\'t seen any game that comes close to matching it on the PS2(S\'just me, from a technical  and artistic standpoint the game towers over all other PS2 games I\'ve seen so far). There are other examples, but I wont get into that... The difference between the Xbox and PS2 are already noticable, IMO. And these are 1st generation titles. :)

I agree with you on this one... The chances of the Xbox doing even somewhat well in Japan are supaa low... I\'ll be surprised if Microsoft manages to make a  spot for themselves in Japan, though. We\'ll see, I guess...

"The Games so far look like complete and utter PC ports and horrible sequels"

... Uh, not to say this is a bad thing, but most of the PS2\'s killer apps are sequels. :D And its getting more PC ports. And most of the Xbox\'s killer apps aren\'t even PC ports.

And please, read the recent impressions of HALO and Fuzion Frenzy... :)

The split launch hasn\'t been confirmed yet. I, for one, dont believe it... But we\'ll see.

Plenty of advertisements. Taco Bell is there, tons of magazine ads, gaming stores like Electronics Boutique has Xbox ads everywhere. If you\'re talking about Television ads and all of that, they\'re starting those in November. They want to hype people up just before the Xbox launch.

Have you actually seen PGR in motion, it doesnt look that much better than GT3, and I\'m wondering how Halo towers over any PS2 game, I have nothing against the xbox and I think its going to do good but I think your wrong

I got to see the build that was shown at E3, and I admit, the game didn\'t look that much better than GT3 back then... But this... this... Its looking much, much better than GT3 right now. I thought I was looking at the real thing.

And as for HALO, you\'ll have to see this game on an HDTV with a 5.1 setup to see what I\'m talking about. At first glance it doesn\'t look all that great, but looking at the huge enviroments iced with spiffy bump mapping and reflections, and all of those A.I. opponents and teammates on screen all at once, the incredible physics(Even the bullet shells have their own physcis models, and tons of those are flying around. ) with no framerate dips is truly a sight to behold. :)

Why won\'t Japanese people accept it? I know that X-Box as of late had pulled in some pretty big name developers that have made some pretty big named franchises to X-Box.

I don\'t think that the Japanese are as ignorant towards the rest of the world\'s products anymore, at least not as much as they used to be.

We\'ll see. At least we know that Microsoft caught their attention at TGS. I cant see it dominating in Japan, but I cant see it bombing either.

I have to say, that is the exact way that I see things shaping up for Xbox in Japan, not dominating but also not completely bombing either. Actually with some of the reports coming out of Japan recently I must say that I\'m pleasantly surprised at MS\' showing, but I must admit that my expectations were rather low. I was just hoping that MS didn\'t leave a bad impression within the gaming media like they did at E3. There is no question that Sony owns and will continue to own Japan. However, things may turn up different in America and Europe..........eventually.

I doubt that the 5.1 setup has anything to do with the graphical appearance of this game...

I am very sceptical about this game. Framerate (still drops below 30 fps if I stand correct - was said to be at 180 fps on X-Box hardware in some PC-magazines overhere), some ugly texturing (grass - cliff example), phyiscs kind of wierd: I saw this screen of a jeep hitting this giant tree-log, but instead of crashing into it, flyes right over that huge damn thing.

It doesn\'t. But the sound in this game is amazing. :D I just had to throw that in there.

It did, and only in the areas that Bungie didn\'t optimize. The game is supposed to be locked at 30 at launch.

Nope. Thats DOA2:HC on Xbox hardware, read the other thread.

Polished, and spiffy lookin\' in the more recent builds. :)

o_o; Man, you\'re thinking of screens from around the time of Gamestock. Old as hell. :D

this is the screenshot you speak of. And yes, stuff like that has been fixed.

Just wait for Nov. 15th, you guys\'ll see what I\'ve been goin\' on and on about then. ^_^;

These type of threads are getting redundant. Every week someone posts the same things, in different wording. You should use that crystal ball to win each week\'s lotto, rather than the outcome of the console wars.
