I Just Played Xbox...

Ugh...  They had it on display at EB...it was pretty cool.  The only playable demo was Oddworld: Munch\'s Oddysee (which I\'m pissed because Microsoft bought Oddworld out...bastards).  There was massive amounts of buttons, and they all worked for the game...:sconf:

I was the only one who could figure out how to play the demo.  Halo was reall sweet!!

Also, it was a little bit smaller than I thought it was gonna be (the system I mean), but it was still huge.  The controller was comfortable to hold and allowed for easy playing.  My friend is buying one, and I may as well...but right now I\'m waiting for my MGS2...:D

I don\'t hate Microsoft as much now...and they have made a great sytem...

Ask me questions if you give a crap...

I didn\'t get to play because the stupid kid in front of me had been playing for like an hour, but I did watch.  Not too bad, but, not sure if it\'s worth my money though.  The built in stuff will be great, but it\'s nothing irresistibly desirable.  With games like MGS2 and Smackdown coming out soon, PS2 is very desirable.  I\'m on the fence with Gamecube as well, but I\'ll have to wait to get my hands on that.

Oddworld wasn\'t that bad, it\'s just that the particluar level on the demo was kind of lame.  I remember some of the old movies where the guy gets sucked into the meat grinding machine...those were impressive graphics...and the shadowing...;)

Anyway...Oddworld was the only demo that was playable.  But I enjoyed it (considering that I was waiting for the friggin\' game for 3 or so years).

The Xbox was a lot cooler than I thought it was gonna be, but everything that I\'ve seen for the Xbox so far has been disappointing...in comparison to the hype it\'s been getting (Xbox, not the game).

But these are just the first games...and they still look darn good...:)

On the 15 of March 2002, i was going to leave these forums for good.
But on the 16 of March i realised i couldn\'t ever say bye to you guys, so i am staying here for good!

How are the Graphics for XBox?  Is it heavy stuff man!  Will it blow me away!  Does it have jaggies like all of my PS2 games minus a few.  Too bad you never got to play DOA3, it\'s still in it\'s final stages of development I guess.  Halo looks cool.  I asked the guy at EB how much the system costs.  When he told me I freaked!  $649.99, but he said it was a bundle package with 3 gams: DOA3, Munch, and Halo or that Star Wars Lightsabre game. Oh it comes with a Microsoft Remote Control.  I don\'t know if he was totally sure.  The people around me freaked also about the price.  For all you Americans you can relax, it\'s Canadien dollars!  I\'m thinking about getting one, but I\'m also thinking about NGC.  If they make games as cool as the SNES than I\'ll get one for sure.  I think I\'ll wait about a year before I buy one or both of them.  I still have a pile of Dreamcast and PS2 games to finish.  I still have to play Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, Shenmue, Silent Hill 2, Devil May Cry, Crazy Taxi 2, ATV Offroad Fury, Onimusha, Gauntlet Legends: Dark Legacy, Dark Cloud, ICO etc.  When you work 60 hours a week and only Saturday off I go out with my friends, then I make big bucks on Sunday with Double Time!:D

I played it as well and I was very disappointed!

The graphics were good, up to par with PS2 but not blowing it away.  From all the hype and hoopla I really expected something great.  I understand its just a demo but the demo is supposed to impress, entice, make me go crazy.  But I was utterly disappointed.

I don\'t like the controller for the most part.  Feels like Im holding a bowl of soup, big heavy, and just not to my like-ing.    So needless to say I ordered two Game-Cubes that day, one for me and one for my sister.

Not saying its a decent system.  has good graphics, but not to the level I was expecting to see.  Too bad really, at least they tried!

The fact remains that when looking at how the graphics stack up to PS2 games coming out now, and realizing that these are first generation games, we are dealing, obviously, with a heavyweight system.

My thing is, is that people see pics and down the PS2 when compared to the Xbox.  You can\'t compare the two in pics alone.  Jaggies and stuff like that are prevailant through PS2 games, but when you come down to it, Xbox games are just as jaggy with the same draw distances too.  It kind of boils down to the methods you use to control said jaggies.  I ramble, my point is, don\'t down it, \'till you can play it.  And I never once downed the XBox (Ok, maybe I did a couplea times in my younger days :D ).  I KNOW I can\'t get an Xbox for a loooong time, so not having it doesn\'t bother me, so I won\'t talk like a jealous fool about it.

Impressions:  I despise the controller.  It closely, very closely, resembles the DC controller, which I hated with a passion, and the system itself is LARGE.  I was never a fan of the whole "Abe" thing, but other games have HUGE promise.

Look out fer this one, and no, I ain\'t no XBox sympathizer, just a gamer who loves great games and systems.

The next generation of consoles are more or less equal in power with no significant gap between the PS2, GC or X-Box unlike the previous gen with the Saturn(crap 3D) obviously the weakest and the PS and N64 at almost the same level given pros and cons (PS - better texture,CG due to CD storage but heavier pixelation, N64 - cleaner graphics due to AA but boring texture due to limited secondary storage).

So now it\'s all boils down to...software!!! And we can see that most developers developing across multiple platforms except for the few exclusive here and there.

But suprisingly, I found the GC version of SC2 to be not much of an improvement(from the screen-shot) over the DC SC. but then again, even now, there\'s hardly a 3D fighting game out there released today that can match this game graphic quality(including DOA2)!

anyway it\'s gonna be a great generation of consoles for all gamers!!

Agreed.  Fully.

Nintendo again shoots themselves in the foot with their format type.  Sometimes, originality is not always the best feature of a video game system.  Why would they make it so we would have to buy third party versions of their hardware to get comparable system features of other consoles?

Dumb.
