Silent Hill 2 -discussion- *spoiler alert*
« on: October 22, 2001, 06:45:30 AM »
Okay I bought and beat Silent Hill 2 last week.   Awesome game, I enjoyed it very much..  But I beat that game and it left me with so many questions.

I bought the hint book to see if I could get some answers but no.  Come to find out there are mutliple endings.  I beat the game and go the leave  ending.  Which I gather is one of the more dificult endings to get.

But what I don\'t get is what the hell happend to that town?  Is it for real, or is it all in his head?  Where did the other characters come from in that game?  Where they in his head as well?

Good game I just did not understand quite a bit of it.

Anyone who else has beaten it and want to have a dicussion please post in here!

Thanks

I feel the same way man. After what happened in the hospital, I feel like everything is in his head.

I\'m still trying to dissect it though, it\'s odd as hell. But I loved it. :D Btw, I got the leave ending as well. I really don\'t want to know what the other endings are, because I plan to (try) and get all of them.

Do you know what the game looks for to determine your ending?

There is a whole slew of things.  But I gather the second time around there are clues as to what endings you have not got in the game.  I don\'t think you get the same one everytime, well I hope not.

Hey I should share this as well..  Works before you beat the game and after, press L1 + R1 in the option screen, gives you some more options..

After you beat the game, you have the option of taking the screen garbage out, makes the game look like a HIGH-RES game, looks very good.  Also you can select to get more ammo, times 1,2,or 3 the ammount of ammo you would normally get, makes beating the game easier the second time around.  Also makes it easier for HArd mode.

Also if you beat the game in easy, normal, and hard riddle mode, and then do hard again, its extra extra hard!

Ohh great!

Hey also if you beat the game already, start a new one, go past the cemetary on the way to the town, there is a new thing thats on the path, trust me and go do it..  You will see what I am talking about, and it kicks a$$..

Its in his head but it isn\'t.

All those people are being lured or called to Silent Hill to play for there sins.

The sins as I can gather are...

James - Killed his wife to end her pain which seems humain but not in the eyes of Silent Hill.

Angela - Well, i\'ve looked around on the net and the general idea is that she was molested by her father and she killed him. So that would be her sin. I\'ve read many reviews about how the last name of an author (Vauchs I think) is one of the street names. And he is famous for writing books on Child molestation. Also Angela screams "No daddy no!" to the doorman monster.

Eddie - Eddie is nothing more than a psycho I think...but he has a purpose. Of course Silent Hill encourages the behaviour of people like Eddie to go out and murder people. But he is their to tell james something...

Laura - Too young to have any sins (i\'ll explain later)

Maria - I\'ll eaxplin her later too.

ok, now heres why its in his head but it isn\'t.

For each character Silent Hill is they\'re own personal hell. For instance James kills these demon looking monsters through the whole game...they represent his sins. The reason Eddie is there is so that when James kills him, James has to realize that Eddie is not a monster but a human being. James has to realize that he is a murderer just like Eddie, not only to Eddie but to his late wife Mary.

And another thing that points out that Silent Hill is its own personal hell for each character is when James catches up with Angela and the whole hotel is on fire. During the conversation James says

"I\'ts hot as hell in here..."

Angela replys.

"you see it too, huh? for me its always like this."

And also in the hospital when James is talking to Laura he says

"Your here all by yourself? I\'m amazed you don\'t have a scratch on you"

she says

"Why should I?"

It basically means Laura is too young to have sins...she doesn\'t see the monsters or the fire she justs sees a big empty deserted town. Laura is only their because she believes she can find Mary too (her lost mother figure). She\'s not lured by guilt or anything else.

As far as I can tell Maria is what James wishes Mary could of been. Maria isn\'t real...she is created by Silent Hill for James to remind him of Mary and make him feel guilty for killing her. Which is why through out the whole game you watch Maria die over and over. To make James feel the guilt seeing how his purpose is to protect Maria.

As for the actual town? I am not sure how it got like that...I think its the Dark Lord Samael from SH1 pulling all the strings.

anyways, hope that helped.

As for the endings.

They\'re is...

Leave
In Water
Maria
Rebirth
Dog

Ahhh I hear ya..  And I did hear those clues from the characters.

See I did not play Silent Hill 1 so I did not know if the story line carried over or not..

But what you said fits a few more peices together.  They only way to know is to beat the game again!

Should be a lot easier second time around.  Except Im probably going to play hard and hard!

Hey Bob, thanks for the input. Things become much more clearer now.

Man, now I think the game is even better. It sure as hell was disturbing. And that last fight had me running. I can\'t wait to get the other endings. Though I hope I don\'t go through it and get the same one again, I hope the game knows better like Kirath said.

not a prob, a lot of the stuff I said comes from gamefaqs and stuff I figured out by myself.

but heres how to ensure you guys get the other endings

to get MARIA ending
- Immediately go where maria tells you to go. Don\'t make her say it twice.

- She must suffer only very very minimal amounts of damage when she is with James.

- James must spend a lot of time with her in West South Vale and in the Hospital before he leaves her in room S3.

- Check back on her in room S3 a lot.

- DO NOT stay and listen to James and Marys conversation in the last corridor.

- This ending is more likely to occur if you cleared the In Water and Rebirth ending.

to get the IN WATER ending
- Examine the knife Angela leaves for james.

- Read the Diary on the Hospital roof top.

- Listen to the conversation with the headphones in the reading room in the Hotel.

- Listen to the conversation with Mary in the last long hall.

- When you feel James heart punding because he is very weak, don\'t heal right away. Instead walk through several rooms before you heal. Do this about several times during the game.

- This ending willm most likely occur if you\'ve completed the Rebirth and Maria ending.

to get the REBIRTH ending
- Simply collect the four new items during a replay game.
- The four items are...
 *White Chrism.
 *Lost Memories.
 *Obsidian Goblet.
 *The Crimson Ceremony.
- With these items in your inventory at the end of the game will get you the REBIRTH ending.

you guys already have the LEAVE ending so i\'ll skip it until someone asks to know how to do it.

to get the DOG ending
- You have to clear the LEAVE / MARIA / IN WATER or just the REBIRTH ending before this one is available. So you either have to get those 3 or just the REBIRTH one to be eligible to get the DOG ending.

- You must find a key inside a Dog House thats located in a vacant lot just West of Jacks Inn on Nathan Avenue.

- The ending is basically an inside joke for all of those who have played SH1. Its pretty funny and worth playing the game the 5th time around.

hope that helped out, and be sure to tell me how you did.

yea Bob, You made ALOT of things MUCH clearer for me now!! Thanx!! I have been trying to figure this game out all while I played and since last week when I beat it. Laura in particualr had me quite confused with the "why shouldnt I be" comment. I couldnt figure out for the life of me why the little girl was afraid to be alone in a place like that.

aye it was DEFNATELY very confusing to just beat it once.

But the thing that made me love the game so much more is that (as you can tell) there is so much back story thats not in the game. Like a huge mystery...the story stays with you after you turn off the PS2 cause you want to know more. Of course if the story stays with you I think a bit of the fear stays with you too...

And i thats true then my hat goes off the the creators for doing what they wanted to do...a lasting cloud fear engulfing the player.

This game was twisted, in graphics and in story. But that\'s what made the game so confusing and glorifying. What would Silent Hill be like if everything was like Resident Evil, everything thrown out at you and easy to understand. The first time around i Beat the game with normal level, and normal riddles and got the In Water ending.  Someone stated earlier in the posts above that if you beat the game and go past the cemetary, you find "something" which is the chainsaw, I might add that this only happens when you beat the game normal-normal. All else fails. And by the way, I would like to know how to get the Leave ending, although I\'ve heard it was weak compared to all the rest. As far as ranking the game, Its is definately a must get. IMO anyway. :D
