I don\'t know where you heard the internet is free.... Our ISPs pay a helluvalot of money for our bandwidth. Every second we\'re surfing outside their small private part of the internet, they\'re paying money.
What he means is, the internet was created as a research project and the only money you pay (or
should pay) is for the upkeep of your ISP\'s equipment and a little extra for them. It costs no more to play a game online than it does to let your machine idle with an active IP address.
Some companies, like Blizzard, have dedicated servers for online play and they do it for free, b/c they see that online play will get more people to buy and play their game. Which is why you\'ll see the Diablo II players outnumber the Ultima Online players 5 to 1.
