What\'s up with the MS/TacoBell XBox giveaway?
« on: October 28, 2001, 07:07:15 PM »
I wasn\'t planning to buy an XBox right away, but what the heck, I\'d take one if they gave it to me.  I do like Taco Bell, so I saved the game pieces I got from the TB down the street.  Today (the 28th) is supposed to be the last day to get game pieces, and tomorrow is supposed to be the last day you can register the codes from the gamepieces on the XBox website (http://www.xbox.com/tacobell/index.html).  I had already entered one code last week, and I tried to enter two more tonight.  The only problem is, the site crashes when you try to load the page that lets you enter the codes.  Right now I\'m getting this error message:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error \'80004005\'

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired

/tacobell/html/register.asp, line 125

What do you think is going on?  Maybe some hackers made up a code generator, and MS had to take the site down to control the damage.  Or maybe it just overloaded...     Hah hah yeah, that sure looks good for Microsoft\'s crappy webservers.  Kudos, MS!!!

If you were a little more technical you can see that the error denotes a line in code in the register.asp page. ..Human error. Therefore it has nothing to do with the servers.

That Damn thing nearly blew out my PC SPEACKERS

DAMN YOU Microsoft

And Damn  YOU IGN

Hmmmm i wonder if i can put a clame in and sue IGN for Post dramatic Stress Disorder due to the level of the sounds used in that add.

with that i could just b!tch slap them for nearly runing my expensive PC sound system :(

OK, if you want to split hairs, fine.  The fact remains...  register.asp page was written by Microsoft.  Site is hosted on a machine maintained by Microsoft, running Microsoft webserver software.  No matter where the fault lies in there, it\'s still Microsoft\'s screw up, or intentional action.  Did you miss my point?

Now an update:  One hour before the deadline last night I still could not enter my taco bell codes.  So, I check out one of the XBox forums, and someone posted that his friend was able to enter the codes using Netscape Navigator.  I still have Netscape installed, so I started it up, and sure enough it worked!  Now what the hell did Microsoft do to prevent their idiotic script from working with Internet Explorer, while still working fine with Netscape?  I can\'t believe it was an accident.
