Colored PS2s Sold Out in Minutes in Japan...

As we told you about last month, Sony is planning to release a set of limited edition PlayStation 2 units in Japan. The campaign is being launched to commemorate the of shipping more than 20 million PlayStation 2 units worldwide. Specifically, Sony plans to release the system in several color variations including white, silver, yellow, blue and red. Sony began taking preorders for the limited edition units today, although they didn\'t last long. According to company representatives all 666 units in each color sold out in minutes. For reference, the limited edition systems will retail for 50,000 yen ($415) each, nearly double the price of a normal PlayStation 2. Sony plans to extend the campaign to America and Europe next year, expect more details in the coming weeks.

The price is higher than I expected, but hey, they\'re colored!  When the 3330 colored units come to America, I might get one just to sell on Ebay.

WOW DOUBLE THE price of ps2 and it is just a color. tHis would be a great way for them to add the HDD and erthernet card in with that. That would sure help them sell some of those 20million ps2\'s they have shipped around the world. And would help sell the add-ons.

I\'m coming to the conclusion that paint in Japan is pretty expensive. :rolleyes:

Hey - I\'ll  get a colored PS2 also..Only cost me like five bucks though..Good ole\' Spray paint..

Bwagh ! I don\'t even really like those colours. Sony could\'ve done something more creative with it, than just make em look like a whole paintbuckets went over it. The silver PS2 seems okay to me though. The others have this ugly pale crayon kinda colours.
If I were to choose I would have made a PS2 with semi blank transparant casing with yellow-orange accents ( the vert. stand,
PS2 logo and such..)
Or a PS2 in metallic champagne colour with silver accents, that would be exclusive !

Exactly.  It doesn\'t matter that they are different colors.  People are buying them for $415 because they are limited edition.

I think Sony should pick like the 5 top developers and allow them to design a PS2 paint job. Limited Edition of course.

Like Konami could have like a Metal Gear Solid PS2.

Capcom could do like RE or DMC or something.

Square could do an FF one.

Heck yeah.  That would be very cool.  But Sony would probably charge over $700 for the things.
