Anyone playing Burnout ???
« on: November 10, 2001, 03:26:08 PM »
I received the game from Amazon yesterday and I have not yet opened it.

I\'m having second thoughts about keeping it because I have yet to hear anyone rave about it.

I was thinking of trading it in for Soul RTeaver 2, Half Life or Deus Ex.

I am also going to trade in THPS3 since I haven\'t opened it becuase I know it won\'t be better (for me) then SSX Tricky ( I\'m a huge Snowboarder game fan and SSX spanks )

So question #1

How is Burnout and is it worth being a keeper

Question #2

What new release games should I consider getting if I trade in both Burnout and THPS3 ???  or what game should I consider for THPS3

I have

DMC, GTA3, SSX tricky, Jak and Daxter, BG: DA, MGS2, Spalshdown,  already or on order

One guy at the GA forums reviewed it..
And he loves it.. (Called it the GT3 killer)

I also saw some talk about it on the IGN Boards..

I cant wait to try it out.. (Racing freak)

I think it is a good game, but no GT3 killer, simply because they are different genres. The cars in Burnout don\'t handle as realistically as GT3 but GT3 has NO WHERE near the number of cars on screen.

The crashes are pretty darn spiffy and the games is loads of fun, IMO.

Burnout is VERY similar to Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero. The only difference that I see (right now) is that you can\'t customize the cars. Overall it is a good game, but me personally, I\'m strapped for cash so it\'s not exactly high on my list.

ive heard its great for awhile.... a bit shallow, as in more traffic at the same corners so you learn not to try anything dangerous at that part.........everything else is meant to be great but it can be to short.....very arcadey!!! im thinking about getting it, ill rent first

I rented it and I thought is was complete crap.  I played it for about ten minutes and could not force myself to continue.  Burnout was not worth the six dollars it cost me to rent that piece of trash.  The gameplay was totally weak and simplistic, the graphics are nothing special, and from what I saw the crashed weren\'t all that great.  I\'d have to say trade it.

the game is nothing like GT3 accept that it involves cars and its a racing game

GT3 = simulator

Burnout = Arcade styled city racer

so far I\'m not planning on keeping it, but I\'m not sure what I want to trade it in for

ddaryl,

I got this as part of my [finally] amazon.com/TRU buy 2 get 1 free deal.  Just came in the mail yesterday and I\'ve played it a titch tonight...

Overall feeling?  This is Need For Speed with a graphics tweak.  Better than NFS...but worst point would have to be the musak.  Bleh!  Ooooooh, we\'re going faster, let\'s make the violins build into a crecendo!  WTF?!!!

Wipeout physics are actually quite good and varied.  Might be the best part all-in-all...just totaling the metal.

Cars seem to handle fairly well.  But as said before, this is without a doubt an arcade racer and nothing more.

Wish it had a behind the dash view for my GT3 Logitech steering wheel.:(

Anyways...I figure I\'ll keep it awhile and then E-bay it to someone else...

i bought this game as i saw such good reviews!!!!!!! i was wrong this game is crap, these are the probs i had with it
the grphics arent that good,
the cars handle terrible.
everytime you touch another car you crash, even if going really slow
if you hit a wall at 70 you dont crash, go up a back of another car...bang
dont mind hitting cars  from behind, but not ones (computer controlled) on the wrong side of road
music terrible
some car look like there dodging out of your way then decide to dodge into you

ddaryl...I dredged this thread back up cuz I had a blast during a recent Thanksgiving holiday with the family.

Not only did my twin sisters (that can\'t drive) have an ABSOLUTE BLAST with this game [used the FF Logitech wheel/pedals along with it]...but the room remained consistently full of family members going, "Whoa!"..."Geeez!"...."Holy @#i%T"...yankin\' their heads away from near hits, grinding teeth during the collisions, etc.

Great time had by all!  On top of that, I got the "Burnout" feature understood during this visit as well...flat-out-flyin\'!!!

Sorry that kopking didn\'t have a good review on this game...perhaps has to do with PAL version??? Anyway...really had a blast.  Great "party" game IMO cuz anyone that can drive a riding lawnmower (if not a car) knows how to steer & press gas/brake.  Easier, more forgiving (yes, say, "Arcade") controls than the likes of most other driving games...but I have no doubt that is what made it soooo much fun and easy to pick up and play.

Just thought I\'d toss this out there for folks to chew on as the holiday season approaches...  Maybe someone will see it as a cheap previously played game to purchase, etc.
