SSBM Misses Gold...

... and instead gets Platinum from Famitsu.

http://www.excite.co.jp/world/url/?wb_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww2u.biglobe.ne.jp%2F%7Enanko%2F&wb_lp=JAEN&wb_dis=2

Super Smash Bros. Melee was awarded the Platinum award with a score of 37/40 (9, 10, 9, 9). This, coupled with the recent 34/40 score for Pikmin, should keep a few GCN owners in Japan happy until the next game comes out... when is that anyways?

That was predictable.  No, not a Smash Brothers game getting Platinum, but that title leading to you saying it got a platinum.  Am I even making sense?  I have no idea.  I\'ve been playing MGS2 for almost 24 hours and my brain is fried.  I need sleep.

Anyways, that\'s great to hear for the Smash Brothers fans.  I can\'t stand the game, but I know it has a cult following. :)

For the record, while sales haven\'t shown it, every GCN game in Japan has received at least a Gold (minimum 33 out of 40)  award.  This includes Pikmin, Monkey Ball, Luigi, Wave Race, Super Smash Bros, and a soccer game - Fifa, I believe.

Isn\'t Famitsu a Nintendo-oriented magazine?

If it is, I wouldn\'t trust the reviews too much.

My opinion is matched best with that of EGM\'s reviews.

I believe...no. Famitsu is a game magazine much in the same vain as Gamespot. Some of their reviews I may not agree with, believe that doesn\'t make them bias to one system or the other.
Opinions are not important.

I\'ve played this game repeatedly and extensively at Cube Club NYC.  I love it!  It so such a vast improvement over the original.  If you only check out screens, it really looks more like an upgrade (like DoA3) than a sequel, but nothing can be further from the truth.

The first one sold like a firestorm, and Famitsu gave it a 31/40.  This one should simply conquer the Japanese completely.  Damn, I can\'t wait til Dec. 3rd! ;)

Wonderful. Now if I just gave a damn about a game where you fight as Nintendo characters that I didn\'t like in the first place. Too bad for me I guess.

SSBM = No fighting game but a party game

^^^^If they changed the characters into Tekken characters would that change your mind?

I don\'t understand why people blast Smash Brothers as not being a fighting game yet in the same breath call Tekken a fighting game. If Smash Brothers is a button masher then tekken must be a controller slammer.

I can\'t believe you are comparing SSB, a game where every character has around 5 moves each, to Tekken, where every character has over 30 moves.  SSB is the biggest button masher ever, but that does not mean it\'s not a great game and that it\'s not fun.

Like Metal_Gear_Ray said, SSB is a party game.  Everyone can pick it up and learn how to play decently in like 5 minutes.  But of course, the hardcore players will still almost always win.

Too bad it isn\'t a launch game. Either way, the GC launch should be fun. I Know I am gonna pick up Luigi\'s Mansion, RS2 and Super Monkey Ball..

Apparently you have never had SSB very long, there are more moves than you think. You don\'t just hit the buttons over and over, you use the analog stick to fight bassically. Rogue Leader is a sequel, SSBM is not a sequel. It is not SSB2. It is the same exact thing with improved graphics, more moves, characters, and items. At least some of us can admit that its not SSB2. People think DOA3 is a sequel. Well to those of you who are still undecided. Its a rehash with better graphics. That is basically it.

How is Rogue Leader a sequel? It is the same exact thing as Rogue Squadron with updated graphics.

SB is not a fighting game becaue it doesn\'t even look or play like a fighting game. lemme ask you, where are the combos, counters multi throws and moves. Yeah sure mario can throw a fireball, and do a few kicks and punches but it doesn\'t come even close to what real fighters are about, depth and gameplay.

Don\'t call tekken a basher, it is NOT. The only character which you coud bash with is eddy and HW to some extend. Tekken has a deep, very deep combo system which is very hard to master. Master in this game cannot be beaten by button bashing newbies.
