My WRC demo review
« on: November 15, 2001, 10:58:21 PM »
I finally got my demo (australian version) on Wedensday night and now that i have had two days to play it i thought i would post my views.
The demo featured two stages, El Condor in Argentina and Rezzo in San Remo.
First thing that struck me was the graphics. They are amazing. The lanscapes are amazing (Argentina:D ) and stretch off into the distance. The car looks great to nice and detailed. The inside of the car is great and looks exactly like it does on TV. Another noteworthy mention was the animation of the driver and co driver in the ****pit.
The presentation was another positive looking very proffesional and reminding me of the TV presentation.
On to the handling. At first i was a bit dissapointed the handling felt alright but there was too much grip. But i have slowly got used to it and now really enjoy it. IMHO it isnt as good as CMR handling but better than CMR2 handling which i never liked.
Using the Gt Force steering wheel also makes a big difference and it is alot more enjoyable with it. One bug i did find was that GT Force would sometimes lose the feedback effects and it would go off centre. Hopefully this would be fixed by the full version.
Another dissapointment was the length of the stages. Argentina takes less than 2min to complete while Italy takes a little longer at just over 3 min. Also i think they could narrow the Italy stages a bit.
The demo offers excellent selection of views with my personal favourite being the cocpit view from the drivers perspective.
The replays show off the wonderful graphics and their is a variety of good views on offer.
Sound is also a plus with realistic car and gravel sounds. One thing i liked was the fact that the engine sounded different when inside the ****pit to when using the bonnet view.
I was expecting alot from the damage model but was dissapointed. Its just to had to damage your car. I ahve driven of many cliffs yet while the damage looks good i can still not reach the damage shown in preview screenshots. There were pictures of cars with smashed windscreens and broken wheels.
Overall i was impressed with the demo and i am looking forward to its release.

Dont forget m8.. there is a note on the demo saying that the damage model is not
implimented in this demo.. it\'s 90% complete.. also Kenwright has said that he had started the final version
using the Performance Analyaser, he was also quoted as saying that according to the analyser,
WRC 2001 only uses 10% of the main processor. Now that\'s Awesome..

Anyway, seriously looking forward to it, esp comming out just after my trip to wales for Rally GB

Strange, the stages are only 2 to 3 mintues long? Yikes! How\'s this an FIA Rally licensed simulator if the stages are no more than 4 kilometers long?

Well, it is a demo. Hopefully this game will steer Americans into watching what TRUE racing should be - making right turns and using the brakes. Yes, NASCAR sucks.

Interestingly i mailed Evo Studio about, what i think was too much grip on the demo and they said they had addressed this issue. They also said they had addressed the damage model issue. Heres hoping they were telling the truth.
