Oh dear. Rumour is as rumour does, as they say, but this is looking increasingly horrible. In the last 48 hours two boardroom levels executives working on Gamecube products have confirmed that the Nintendo console is likely to arrive in October next year, and possibly even as late as November.
UK trade paper MCV reported recently that September would be the likely date for Gamecube\'s PAL launch, having exclusively revealed that the hardware would almost certainly slip off its supposed March 2002 release. Nintendo has never confirmed a date for the machine, having constantly affirmed it is to observe the Japanese and American launches – the latter of which occurs on Sunday – before committing to Europe.

The only shining light may be that Europe\'s Gamecube may actually have Mario Sunshine at launch, although Miyamoto has, as yet, only confirmed a summer 2002 release date for release in Japan.

Nintendo remained unavailable for comment at the time of writing.

Nintendo is not only screwing Europe, but they are screwing themselves.  Europe has become a huge gaming continent.  Without the support from them, Nintendo is DOOMED!

Nintendo...WTF?

It just seems they are taking one misstep after another.  Why can\'t they get their **** together?  Why is it always so hard for them?

They\'ve been releasing consoles for almost 20 years now!!  You think they would know what to do by now...

Delays, Zelda going kiddie, launches with like 3 games!  If Metroid turns out to be crap, that\'s it for me.

Anyway, go buy an Xbox...

Well to be fair, Sega has been releasing consoles for quite a long time too, and look what happened to them.

I think this industry is changing dramatically.  Out with the old, in with the new.  Microsoft vs Sony.  I\'m starting to wonder what Nintendo is going to do in the next couple of years.  Will they kill off the NGC like Sega did to the Dreamcast?  Will they ride this console out, then just go into the handheld market at the end of the NGC\'s life?  Will they become a third party developer?  Nintendo just doesn\'t have the passion they once had back in the SNES/NES days.  That lack of passion is going to be Nintendo\'s Achilles Heel.

nintendo really needs to get their heads out of their ass

lemme see, a november launch would mean that stores will have no convidence carrieng the consoles anymore (at least in holland) and it would be abandoned and finished off like DC no matter what price it is. Sad but true, sony already has won the war in europe...

idiots, I wasn\'t going to get their console anyway

If Nintendo launchs its console after summer, it will loose the war here... 2 years later PS2 and some months after XBOX... uh.. N is dead in Europe...

I think this is just a misunderstood rumor. Do you really think Nintendo is SO stupid ? I\'d say they stick with the original date (febr-march isn\'t it ?).
Imo the NGC will be what the N64 lacked and then some. But
if this October 2002 thing is going to be a reality, then the Big N
makes indeed a Big Mistake.

Yeah, I agree with all the replies in this thread.

If Nintendo do decide to wait until October for the launch of the Gamecube, then they shall effectively become 3rd in the next-generation console war.

God knows how many PS2\'s will be kicking around by then, and even the XBox will have got a good footing in the market, too.

I recall that the N64 had a similar fate in Europe, and to repeat the same mistake in succession is tatamount to disaster.

Looks like an imported Gamecube for myself, then...

Is it me? Or does PSone own all the other systems?

This rumor is going around a lot lately.

I seriously doubt that this is true. Nintendo could do it (if it weren\'t for the Xbox), but with this generation ending up like it is, it wouldn\'t be a smart move. A more realistic idea is that they could move it to the summer of 2002. Alas, I highly doubt that, too.

Until it comes from The Big N themselves, I will discard this rumor (like a Square-Nintendo rumor).

Yeah Ethan, I\'m gonna go for the GC and RL at the end of the month when I get my wages.

Even IF it does come out in the Spring, can we be guaranteed that it\'ll have a 60Hz/border-free option?  I doubt it.

Importing is the answer.
