ARRGGHH, 1st Xbox problems shedding light?
« on: November 20, 2001, 06:06:36 PM »
I\'ve had problems with my Xbox outputting a 5.1 signal beginning today (11/20).  It worked perfectly fine before but now the center channel is non-functional.  I looked into it on the internet, and read that many people have been having problems getting Dolby Digital from games.  DVD movies it works fine but it seems the sound processor is screwy when doing on the fly DD.

*rumor*- it was rumored that the Xbox was delayed due to problems with the sound chip.

m$\'s tech support line is saying they are looking into it and will inform the owners (if you called in and gave your contact info) of anything that can be done about it.  That wal-mart swap trick is sounding really good right about now...

Best case scenario is that there is a problem with the first batch, much like the PS2 had with playing DVD movies, but microsoft will fix it and provide any and all recalls neccessary to make sure people who care about DD sound in games will get what they want.  Just informing all you\'s who bought an Xbox...

You see, now this is why I never buy a system at launch. Too many f#cking hardware glitches that bastardize your game playing. Patience people!!
Er, excuse me, how much for one of those, uh, prophylactics?..........But I don\'t have a dollar and thirty-five cents!

Has the dreaded Blue screen popped up yet during a game?

Actually that would be a trip if a game did that as a joke at some point in the game just to get people to freak out.

This is only a rumor but it was said that Microsoft put a bug in the Xbox so that you would have to send it back to Microsoft.  I don\'t know it\'s only a rumor.

I don\'t know how much I would believe that.  I heard the same from Sony\'s Customer Service and it took 3 e-mails and 2 more phone calls before I got a new functional PS2.

I\'m going to buy an X-box eventually and I\'d like 5.1 to be working by then.  Actually I would prefer it to be working now and so would THX.

Now I know what to do when I become a famous game designer.

I\'ll set up the game to where, immediately when you fire the last shot at the final boss, a blue screen intentionally appears--I can just see the people throwing controllers through their televisions.
