Does WRC have bad jaggies?
« on: November 28, 2001, 04:38:34 AM »
This is something I have been trying to find out for a while now.

How bad are the jaggies in WRC? Shots on the net look like crap, so I was looking for someones opinion who owns the game.

Are the jaggies comparable to GT3, or does it look better.

Also, is there any shimmering?

Jagies are non exsitant m8 and shimmering is down to a bear minimum.. there\'s nothing more that the
developers could do. Easily comparable to GT3

There are no jaggies in the game whatsoever. The screenshots on the net dont do justice to the game.  Compared to WRC, GT3 is full of jaggies.

I really havent noticed any jaggies. The game is super smooth and graphics look very nice.

Though I really cant get into the game. Thats my only problem.
I met him 15 years ago, I was told there was nothing left, no reason, no concious, no understanding and even the most rudamentory sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong, I met this 6 year old child with this blang pale emotionless face and, the blackest eyes, the devils eyes, I spent 8 years trying to reach him, and then another 7 trying to keep him locked up because I realised what was living behind that boys eyes was purly and simply evil.

Yes, the game is smooth, but the frame rate seems to only be around 30-40fps.

I would have loved 60...

It really feels like 50 frames per second.

You obviously don\'t have a very good 3D car in your PC then, cause theres a thing called \'anti aliasing\' and when used with the right hardware, removes pretty much so all jaggies.

Ever played Forsaken the a NVidia GForce 3 64 Meg card???

Well I own one, and its beautiful!

Your TV has jaggies?

yes, even TV have jaggies. You might not notice them as much as on a console or PC, but when you watch formel 1 for instants, you might spot some jaggies along the lines. I think on some DVD\'s you might even notice it better, since DVDs have a much higher detail and crisp pictures than a normal TV-channel would. Therefore, it is also much easier to spot jaggies and other kinds of errors on DVDs (frame skips which they use for hard stunts and aren\'t cut properly).

Most top of the line PC games have jaggies too. I don\'t know how clean Forsaken looks on your computer, but having more anti aliasing, makes the picture less crisp. I\'ve played Forsaken and maybe it\'s the high resolution and dark graphics that eliminate the jaggies. If you play a racing game though, I am sure you\'ll be able to spot a few (for example wires, etc).

Umm, its called Anti-Aliasing, and its a software/hardware technique that removes/softens the edges.

Havne\'t you ever played a console game (such as TTT UK/AUS on PS2, and countless DC games) that dont have jaggies???

Boot up Sega Rally 2 for DC. There are no jaggies to be seen, especially if running through RGB.

duh, of course I know what Anti-Aliasing is! I just clearified that TV do have jaggies, even if not really noticable (especially DVDs). Point is, you can\'t always get rid of all the jaggies with some games. While this might be possible on Forsaken (not many edges there to smooth), it gets harder with a game like i.e. GT3 that is full of edges and polygons. Most new games on PC still have them and most console games will have them - some more, some with less.

I\'ll be damned... is that wolfenstein? Wow, these graphics are quite nice.. and at over 60 fps too....

as for the jaggies. None really apparent to me (except for the right wall, first pic, the one that\'s lit up). But you got to agree with me that the resolution here makes it harder for jaggies to be more apparent. If you have the same screen at a smaller Resolution, you\'ll loose detail once you go through with AA. That\'s my point, and games on PS2 do run a max resolution of 640x480. Besides, there are games that have more jaggies, while others may have none. It\'s quite hard to get rid of i.e. a wire that is 2 pixel wide in a game like GT3 (Seattle coarse, when you drive out of the city). Because the wire is so small, the AA will make it disappear or flicker. By using AA, you loose a lot of detail because it smoothens it and makes it somewhat blury. You either want super high detail, or you go with the slightly smoothed look by enabling AA. I think IGN posted a good article on this issue.

Nice graphics though.. I wish my PC was good enough to run graphics like that. :(

On a side note; is the game any good? I have heard many great previous about this game (if it\'s Wolfenstein)... is it a single player game or multiplayer?
